Hey guys I was thinking of going to a gay bathhouse (something I've wanted to do for quite a while) but one of my friends said some people get raped or forced into sex at bathhouses and now I'm not so sure. I've also heard about the whole unclean side of it. Anyone know anything about bathhouses?
 
I do not know what to think about them as far as me actually going to one. On one hand, in fantasy, the idea is really hot. The whole den of sin where guys just get it on willy nilly right and left, but in the age of HIV and God knows what else, I do not really think so.

Apparently there are some higher class ones, but those that I have heard of are pretty grungetastic and creepy. You won't catch me going. A good clean hook-up is as anonymous and risky as I get.
 
I've never heard of anything like that happening in a bathhouse. There are so many people around.

There are good bathhouses and bad bathhouses.

A good bathhouse will have a friendly staff, be scrupulous about cleanliness, and foster a friendly and safe atmosphere. It really makes all the difference in the world to the experience you have there.

Go to bathhousea ddict and read the FAQ and the etiquette guide. Go to Squirt and see what other guys say about the place. The one in Adelaide rates 4/5 so that's very good. Bring a buddy if you feel like it. Any reputable place will give you a tour of the facilities so you can see if they're to your liking.

If you decide to stay, be sure you've memorized the advice in this post and follow it. You'll have a great time if you do.
 
In my younger days and pre aids era, I attended bathhouses and enjoyed the experiences. I was never forced to do anything I did not choose to participate in. I have not attended any in years but dought they have changed that much. Go if this interest you and see what is true or false in what you have been told. Just remember to take condoms and water base lube. Safe sex is still important. :-)
 
I use to go with my friends all the time. Some of them are really nice. But the smaller city ones are holes in the wall. I use to actually work out there on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It was cheaper than a gym and no contract plus all the guys were gay. It's not all sex all the time. It was a social experience with local gay men and friends. I have fooled around with some hot ass men though. It can be very sexy and doesn't have to be dirty,depressing experience. I never saw anyone raped or anything like that happen. Pick a good one in a big city. I use to live in Cleveland and guess they opened the largest bathhouse in the states. I saw pics of it online and it looks like a resort. If you don't go to crazy and just enjoy it for the spa experience than you will have a great time. Unfortunately, there is a stigma that goes with going. People think of the 70's/80's A.I.D. ridden,dank,gloryhole,s&m stuff when hearing the word bathhouse. But if you go know who you are and don't get talked into sex with every guy that asks. I had some offers to be a kept man by doctors and lawyers. Not my style. I like the poor ass goofy guys for some sad reason. LOL

Vistited the Club in St. Louis. Great facility with great staff, clean and well cared for. Condoms are always there for those who plan to fuck. Always great guys. It took me some years to get the courage up to go and glad have made several trips to the BATHS.
 
Yeah, every gay guy should go once. Kind of a rite of passage. You don't have to do anything to appreciate the free and loose atmosphere of men simply being sexual. There's no place quite like it. There's no stigma, there's nothing you have to hide, you know all the guys are there for sex. It can be a great atmosphere if only to hang around with other gay guys in an exclusively sexual way. Watch if you like, lot of guys love to be watched. Just only do what you're comfortable with and enjoy the facilities.

Almost every bathhouse has a time out area. A lounge to go hang out in where you'll sometimes find guys are friendlier. Just chat or read and then go do something else. It doesn't matter if you go into the sauna 10 times or once. Let it all hang out. The kind of social and sexual freedom you can feel in a bathhouse is difficult to find just about anywhere else for gay men.

Thanks for the info Teasel

I'm very new to the whole Bi-curious thing so it might be a good chance to observe or maybe try out at the bathhouses.

Speaking of which, has anyone been to the one in Newcastle in Australia?
 
Actually bathhouses seem kind of hot, now. That site definitely changed my opinion. I thought they were still just grungy STD exchange centers. Anyone from Montreal know of any good ones there? I assume there are a few. I go there for a weekend every year.
 
I highly recommend every gay guy at least try it out ... the first time may seem a little awkward, but you might really enjoy it! Houston has a nice one. Lots of really cute guys if you go at the right time!
 
Check them out. I can only add that for me they were a positive experience with lots to see and do, depending on what you are after and what you decide at the time. Most reputable places supply condoms and lube as the only thing you carry with you is a key to your locker and a towel.
Just take care to play safe and not get carried away and do something unsafe.(!)
 
I go to one here in my city about once or twice a month and feel really comfortable there. It is safe, clean, and you get booted out if they catch you doing unsafe practices. what I like about it is that I can choose what I do and who I engagage with. It can be both relaxing and fun.
