Gay detective fiction

I found Baxt's character unreadable, like some of the 1930's British mystery writing and assumed that Baxt himself must have been overdoing peyote or something.

Hansen's protagonist is much more believable in a plodding sort of way...I prefer someone with a bit more sass and zazz but not any relationship angst or trauma.

I liked some aspects of Michael Nava, but found his Henry Rios character somewhat overworked after a few books.

We need someone with the searing intellect of Holmes, the refinement of Nero Wolfe, but with the wit of Wilde. And preferably a dirty lad with hints of bedroom secrets we are never totally let in on.
