Greetings All,
I recently attended the Gay Erotic Expo 2007 here in NYC at the Puck Center.
I've made peace with my interest in pornography, but the industry still hasn't, to my view.
I'll divide my observations into two categories, what I was encouraged by and what I was disappointed in.
Encouraging:
* Small companies, many with their originators standing behind their tables answering questions.
* Safe sex information booths and community building information
* Erotic fiction booth, complete with an author.
* Daytime hours of operation
* Excellent security and friendly staff
* Half price DVDs
Disappointments:
* Master of ceremonies was a drag queen, and not even a good one
* Only one major house, Lucas Entertainment, was present they are only second tier in the industry. No Colt, No Mustang, No Raging Stallion, No Titan, No Kristen Bjorn, not even All World, Blue Blake, or other second tiers.
* Heavy on amateur, professional almost non existent.
* Hustlers at one of the booths.
* No forums, no guest speakers, no experts in the industry
* Terrible featured music artist
Questions:
* What does it say about our industry's health that none of the majors felt like they had to attend?
* What does it say that there were no recruiters?
* Where were the strippers?
* Where were the photographers ready to take your picture?
* Where were the social network sights?
* Where were the historians and old stars?
This was the amateur porn expo. Where is the professional one? Does it exist? Why do I have to go to a bar at two in the morning to see a major porn star in person?
If I want professional grown up porn I guess I'll have to wait a little bit longer. I hope it's not called Gay when it happens either. How about the Male Erotic Expo? Can we pull that off? With all the smart talented people out there, I think we can.
