she wrote Blood price and 4 others referred to as the "blood series"

and the "smoke" series as well.

The blood series involves a gay vampire (henry the 8th's bastard child is the vampire)

The smoke series settles on Henry (the vampire) and his lover.

good series!!

Gore Vidal, Myra Breckinridge
Edmond White: A Boy's Own Story, The Beautiful Room is Empty, The Farewell Symphony
Alan Hollinghurst, The Swimming Pool Library
Simon Raven, Fielding Gray
Christopher Isherwood, A Single Man. Also Christopher and His Kind, a memoir rather than a novel, but very readable.
Patrick Dennis, Auntie Mame -- not explicitly gay but so much fun!

I also have a soft spot for the novels of Gordon Merrick, which aren't masterpieces by any means, but are very evocative of the pre-Stonewall gay world. Lots of sex too.

I read a lot of novels, but oddly enough I don't read very many gay novels. I think that's because I have a bad habit of flipping through them looking for the sex scenes. Which are almost always disappointing.

Can you recommend any good, gay novels that you have enjoyed reading - not necessarily erotic novels? - Or point me to gay authors? Would appreciate any recommendations.

Mercedes Lackey, specifically the trilogy she's most famous for -- I believe it was called 'Herald Mage', though I'm not prepared to swear to it, since I gave all three of them away. The star is referred to as 'shaych', that world's way of saying 'gay', basically. If you do read it, please give me your feedback. I actually would like some feedback for my suggestions. Always helps me give better recommendations next time around, and tailor them to the person asking.
