any of you guys get this on your calves?
so me and a friend were screwing (well, he was screwing me :) ) this morning and he was on top of me. he was taking it to town and i was loving it. all of a sudden, my left calf was cramping up like crazy. i had to tell him to get off and i was in the worst pain ever. it felt like it was going to explode (my calf). i lay there, in pain, and try to get up and massage my calf but nothing. Eventually, a few mins later it stopped. I can still feel it.

Im sure this happens. I just wanted to climax and i was pushing it hard. Curling my toes and moving my legs everywhere.

Does this have any relation to dehydration? I ran a few miles this morning before hand, and took some nitor pills (energy pills that kill hunger).

btw, this killed me in the morning. we ended up just blowing each other which wasnt how i wanted to get off! oh well

Hi smoothebottom, I'm moving your thread to the Health & Wellness forum. Hopefully, some of the regulars in there can pipe in and give some insight on this.

The next time it happens, MAKE yourself stand up and put pressure on your foot to stretch the calf muscle. It hurts like hell bit once done the cramp goes away. I wake up all the time with cramps in my calf.

Drink a glass of tonic water before bed. Tonic water contains, quinine, a popular remedy for leg cramps. Research has supported the use of quinine for nocturnal leg cramps, but don't take quinine tablets without consulting your doctor; they can have serious side effects, such as ringing in the ears and disturbed vision.

Back when I was still running long distances, I would wake up in the middle of the night with horrifically bad leg cramps all the time. Since then, I've heard that adding salt to your diet helps, but I stopped running that much before I heard about eating more salt, so I haven't gotten the chance to test it out.

my doctor informs me that most leg cramps are due to an acute potassium deficiency in the body. Eat bananas and take a multi-vitamin each day and see if the cramps don't disappear.

I drive a truck from Fort Worth round trip to San Antonio twice a week, and get terrible cramps in my right calf afterwords. My Doc gave me 2mg Valium.....which doesn't work. I see him next week for plan B.

Dehydration would almost certainly play a big part in your calf muscle's cramping up. Your body needs fluid and if your doing some sort of vigorous exercise you'll sweat, this is our natural air conditioning to keep up cool by expelling water from your body. Your muscles need this water to remain supple hence the leg cramps. Honest, dehydration can do wierd things, nose bleeds, confusion it can increase your temp which in turn increases your chance of having a stroke or a fit.

Great advice.

I sometimes get leg cramps and standing up immediately causes the pain to go away.

I'm sure mineral supplements, as others have said, would help in prevention. I don't always remember to take mine....

it happens with me sometimes during sex. I don't think there is a connection with your running rather as you described you "just wanted to climax and was pushing it hard". I learned to manage it somehow and ease the pain without interrupting the fucking. Try to pay attention as the pain is building up in your leg and control it with moving your muscles. in reality the cramp never comes all of a sudden.

To prevent calf cramps, don't flex your ankles to point your toes away from your knees during sex. Instead, flex your ankles to point your toes up toward the knees. You won't have cramps if you do this.

While all of these threads contain some good info (although Quinine has been prescribed for the treatment of leg cramps. However, because of the drug's risks, the United States FDA has declared it should not be used to prevent or treat leg cramps), I will try and sum up what everyone has been saying.

Cramps are uncomfortable and often painful sensations caused by contraction or over-shortening of muscles.

Cramps are caused by six different things:
hyperflexion
inadequate oxygenation
exposure to large changes in temperature
dehydration
low blood salt
  • Hyponatremia (low blood sodium)
  • Hypokalemia (low blood potassium)
  • Hypomagnesia (low blood magnesium)
low blood calcium

In your case, I think the most likely cause of your cramp was some sort of metabolic imbalance (most frequently hypokalemia). This probably started during your run, where when you sweat you also loose metablolites like sodium, potassium, etc....

Then, during sex, you are sweating more and holding those muscles in a fixed position, which is a recipie for cramping.

To avoid this next time, try to replenish you metabolites by eating potassium, sodium, and magnesium rich foods, like bananas, or any fruit or veggie should contain these essential nutrients.

well if ur not as flexible as a gymnist but trying to bend like a gymnist while having sex, cramp happens.

Here's the list, lack of water, potassium, or calcium. I've found calcium to usually be the culprit whenever I had cramps. But Then again even physically fit folks get cramps when doing that because its not like you regularly use the muscles and positions you use when have sex.

You probably have more than enough sodium salt in your diet. You might want to eat more bananas, but they can cause constipation. Definitely drink some more water.

Do you run often? and how long do you run? Do you have a warm down routine? You should probably stretch your legs/calves after your run, and not just for a few seconds. You should hold your stretch for at least 1 min, 2 minutes would be best, then actively rest (walk around) for a couple minutes before streching again. Cycle through 3 times at least.

In most cases of such leg cramps due to prolonged running, calcium helps a lot more than bananas since you get potassium from other sources in your diet, but most people don't get enough calcium. Take a calcium pill that has magnesium in it. Your muscles need both calcium and magnesium to function properly. If it has zinc in it too, that would also be good. Take a pill that has 25%-33% of the recommended daily value (of calcium) because you can't absorb too much at once and you'll pee a lot of it out.

Thanks for the advice boys. Good stuff. I'll make sure to stay hydrated, and keep the potasium bad. Also not push it that hard.
I do ocassionaly get a cramp when pushing it, but Ive never had a cramp that hard before. I just kinda got freaked out. I did try to get up and take a few steps but it didnt work.
