  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

getting a little thick in here

that burka thread became a free for all and what is sad is who the participants were

But a vocal, violent and fanatical minority, with some support....is .There is a problem, but hating everyone and broad brushing every Muslim as a threat and a fanatic is not the answer. But there is a serious problem, and enough Muslims do have an intolerant view we cannot just say the Western media is all wrong on this.I will not disrespect those of the Muslim faith, good people of good will, but I see this going from a legitimate criticism of those who mock and disrespect the Muslim faith, and have no respect for its rich historical culture, which I condemn...to dismissing the problem outright, which is way too big a leap, that the goals of some Muslims who are fanatics are anathema to a progressive civilization.

you will never come in contact with the true fundamentalists. they simply would never choose to interact with you.

the threads at jub of late hack away at the people who can make the change and solidify the positions of the real people who can cause problems. the people in that burka thread give me more reasons to distrust the non muslim world more than the fundamentalists do

the agenda is the same

to keep us all separate by using generalisations and rhetoric that hawks on differences and misunderstanding

if u are yet again referring to the fact i'm biracial i still don't get your point. because i know what bigots are like i don't like seeing anyone oppressed. i especially don't like watching ethnic groups opress their own...

As a gay man I can either be a bridge or a wall.

I can either connect the two or hold them apart by my presence

I want to be a bridge

what do you want to be?

Andreus, I volunteer to be a support arch.

I respect you, even if we disagree on a point here or there. Those that lack respect and interest in any semblance of understanding the faith of the righteous Muslims, feed into how we are perceived there, and does us absolutely no good.I hope those of good will from East and West ultimately prevail against all who seek to exploit the darkness and fear in us all.

hope is all we have sometimes

wow

aparently one of the people in the Burka thread is sending out PM's to people telling them that they have to pick sides. Apparently he feels that you cannot associate with him and me.

this is so bizarre and high schoolish

well that explains alot of the shenanigans there

nice to see who pulls melody and bashful's strings i guess.

I dont know how or why i could or should be suprised or confused at this point.

^ I think your second-last sentence above is more than a step off-side. They may be mods but they are also entitled to an opinion on any topic under discussion, and I have full faith in the robust system the mods apply in here.

As a Christian man, I have responded to many threads here asking if I could rationalize my sexuality with my faith. The answer is an unwavering YES.

The same could be said for my feelings towards my brothers and sisters of other faiths: Can I live, and love among them, in a diverse, intelligent and supportive society? YES, YES, YES.

Andreus, your posts are always thought-provoking and interesting. Hard-up was one of the first to leave a supportive message for me after I posted as a new member.

We CAN build bridges; I sometimes wonder if being gay, and being socially challenged because of it, doesn't make us more sensitive to the injustices committed throughout the world, including the Middle East.

My brother lives in Saudi Arabia. He has friends of ALL faiths, of many different nationalities. His one compromise to living there: He hears the bells calling his Muslim friends to prayer, and he must observe the Mass in private. He has repeatedly said, that he understands the culture in which he lives, and lives his life with repsect toward others.

Isn't this what we all want? Respect, understanding, support and interest in whom and what we are.

I am keenly aware of the failings of my church, but also revel in its strengths. I will never judge someone based upon their religious beliefs, as we are all exposed to different faiths when we are young, and many belief structures are rooted in family tradition. This does not negate the fact that Christians, Jews and Muslims live in the secular world, each sharing neighborhoods with the other.

James, let us all be bridge builders. There was a Roman bridge that stood for thousands of years in Bosnia. It was destroyed less than ten years ago because of the ethnic strife there (I do not believe any one group took responsibility for it); it is now being rebuilt by a coaltion of many people of that city.

Please don't consider my post a "rant" or "hoiler than thou"; I have made friends and life long colleagues based upon the teachings of my church, and example set by my parents.

Andreus, you have many friends who admire you here. ..|
