In 1976 Tom Robinson asked us to "Sing If You're Glad To Gay".

Is being "gay" something to be glad about, or is being "gay" just a phase we are going through on our way to omnisexuality?

Tom is now married with a child.

I remember buying the single. I was just a kid.

I thought the clerk wouldn't sell it to me.

great song and great lyrics.

and hell yes I'm glad to be Gay.

and what Tom Robinson does with his life is his business.

Yes, on many levels.

First, coz, this is who I am.
Second, coz, I am not a family kinda guy.
Third, I love kids, but would not wish to be bothered.
Fourth, I totally love men.
Fifth, I am happy, living this kind of life...

SC

Iam glad to be gay definatly
its part of who iam so i dont know who i would be if i wasen't
 :-)

to be honest... yes.

Being gay is SO much more fun than being straight. Gay men have this unspoken camradarie that straight men will never have or even understand.

And gay men age slower.

And look better doing it.

I like the totality of who I am as a man and my sexuality is a part of that.

Yes! I also believe that being gay is a blessing rather than a curse. Obviously I would also believe that being straight was a blessing if I had been born that way.

Being gay is what I am and in my opinion the advantages and outlook on life that it has brought me make me thankful that I turned out that way.

Which is the main reason that I find it so heartrending to read about the members here who have not yet been able to come to terms with being gay and live it to the full.

Being happy and pleased with what you are is a state of mind. Never mind that you are in the closet, unable to find a life long partner or just sexually deprived, you are still gay and should revel in the fact that you are one of the chosen few.

If I weren't gay, I'd probably be downstairs on the couch right now balancing a beverage and a bowl of chips on my gut with my undershirt hanging out, and I would be able to identify more with Homer Simpson than with Oscar Wilde.

So, yes.

I also dread to think of what I would of turned out like if I hadn't been gay.

Glad To Be Gay (1979)

The British Police are the best in the world
I don't believe one of these stories I've heard
'Bout them raiding our pubs for no reason at all
Lining the customers up by the wall
Picking out people and knocking them down
Resisting arrest as they're kicked on the ground
Searching their houses and calling them queer
I don't believe that sort of thing happens here
Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy this way
Pictures of naked young women are fun
In Titbits and Playboy, page three of The Sun
There's no nudes in Gay News our last magazine
But they still find excuses to call it obscene
Read how disgusting we are in the press
The News of The World and the Sunday Express
Molesters of children, corruptors of youth
It's there in the paper, it must be the truth
Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy this way
Have you heard the story about Peter Wells
Who one day was arrested and dragged to the cells
For being in love with a man of 18
The vicar found out they'd been having a scene
The magistrate sent him for trial by the Crown
He even appealed, but they still sent him down
He was only mistreated a couple of years
Cos even in prison they...
Look after the queers
Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy this way
So sit back and watch as they close all our clubs
Arrest us for meeting and raid all our pubs
Make sure your boyfriend's at least 21
So only your friends and your brothers get done
Lie to your workmates, lie to your folks
Put down the queens and tell anti-queer jokes
Gay Lib's ridiculous, join their laughter
'The buggers are legal now -
What more are they after?' Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy this way

Glad To Be Gay '87

The British Police are the best in the world
I don't believe one of these stories I've heard
About pretty policemen in leather and jeans
Showing their leg through a split in the seams
Leering at people and leading them on
Then running them in when they start to respond
The press all ignore it, they don't want to see
Except when the case is... a Tory MP
Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way
Pictures of naked young women are best
In the News of the Screws and the popular press
They plaster their pages with bingo and tits
Then add all the scandal and slander that fits
The women at Greenham they smeared and despised
They crucified Elton with sneering and lies
If it's paedophile teachers or lesbian nuns
If it's filth and it's fiction... it's all there in the Sun
Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way
And now there's a cancer to blame on the gays
That's brutal and fatal and slowly invades
The moral majority like a lot
Cos it's the wages of sin and the Judgement of God
The medics are baffled and caught on the run
They say it's a nightmare has barely begun
While government spending is barely a joke
Cos saving our lives doesn't... win any votes
Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way
And sit back and watch as they cease all our books
And treat us like leapers and sinners and crooks
Just hope you don't get caught up in the raids
Or pick up a pig or a partner with aids
Lie to your workmates and lie to your folks
Put down the clones and tell lesbian jokes
Forget the impression from everywhere else
While we still do a wonderful job oppressing ourselves Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy that way
Sing if you're glad to be gay
Sing if you're happy this way

Didn't he marry a lesbian?

I certainly enjoy gay sex, but I wish I didn't need it so much.

I'm who I am,and being gay is part of that...I am happy with me at times and other times, not so.Some are completely happy,so happy they think gays are better, which is ridiculous....as are those who say why did I have to be gay? There's nothing wrong with it,and you can build a rich and good life around it.But gay is neither superior or inferior, though gay men are more tending towards openness with their emotions, more sensitivity.....Straight men can have strong bonds with their friends, soldiers do,especially those serving in war zones, they just do not feel physical attraction.I just think we get either this question,or do you hate being gay,or would you change if you could, quite a bit around here,so I'll answer the other questions now as well as not to have to answer again...I don't hate being gay,and I wouldn't change it if I could...I'd rather try to be the best person I can be,who happens to be gay.To think otherwise supposes something must be wrong with it,but any problems about being gay basically rest on large segments of society unwilling to give gays proper respect, rights and dignity of persons...they should do the changing, not us.

But people should be judged individually ultimately, and being gay or straight in itself has nothing to do about how good a person is.I'm glad to be me,and I am gay.

i'm happy to be gay although i still think if i were str8, life would be much simpler, there would be no need to "come out" to anybody and no judjement by str8 ppl....

Nice post SE. I'm glad to be gay, there are times that I'm not glad, but then there are times where I should just accept who I am.

Just adding a video clip meaning much for me

enjjjooyy the music

one of the best movies ever.

john travolta was cute and sexy in this one too bad he turned into Edna Turnblad.
I saw him and he looks creepy now

thanks for the memories

I'm just "accepting" being gay right now in my life. I HAVE personally accepted it, it's the people around me that I love who are still clueless about it. It's osmething i need to suck up and let out soon. But my time will come. I am glad to be gay although it's something that was just recently acknowledged by me. I have always known, but i never pursued it. AHH. what a mess.

Is being "gay" something to be glad about, or is being "gay" just a phase we are going through on our way to omnisexuality?

I'm not "Glad" about any aspect of my life.
I'm not ashamed about any aspect of my life, either.

Being GAY isn't a "Phase."
Or a "Lifestyle."
Or a "Choice."
pride:

I have noticed gay men are nicer than straight men. :)

Hmm, I've heard that before. This one girl I know told me that I was too nice to be straight!

But I am glad I'm gay. I think being gay makes us all more open and accepting. We know not to judge so quickly, since we ourselves know what it is like to be judged.

I love being gay, its who I'am...I could have the hots for Paris Hilton
Shudderrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

If I weren't gay, I'd probably be downstairs on the couch right now balancing a beverage and a bowl of chips on my gut with my undershirt hanging out, and I would be able to identify more with Homer Simpson than with Oscar Wilde.

You made me think too. I hate to even think about it, but that applies to me as well.

Yes, it is a big blessing to be gay!!
