Is anyone else there following a gluten-free and dairy-free diet? I've been doing it for almost 3 years now and have some back-sliding every now and then (esp. with gluten), and when I fall off the wagon it's hard to get back on again. I've heard that gluten actually changes your brain chemistry which explains the cravings. But once I've retrained myself, it's pretty easy for me to stay away from it. Today, I walked past the very impressive bakery section at the supermarket and wasn't even tempted. I'm wondering what you do, though, to prevent those unexpected slips.

About the irregularity, did you continue to eat lots of fruits and vegetables when you were gluten-free? Also, Tinkyada makes a really good brown rice pasta.

Doing the dairy-free thing isn't nearly as hard for me as the gluten-free thing. I don't crave milk or milk products in the way I crave wheat, sometimes.

I used to get constant ear and sinus infections before I started this diet, and since I've gone gluten-free and dairy-free, they've disappeared. When I have a slip, though, and keep slipping for a while, I will get an infection again, but it tends to clear up once I get back on the wagon and stay there.

Try Tinkyada brown rice pasta. I can't tell the difference between it and wheat pasta. There are some gluten-free pasta brands out there that are truly nasty and--IMO--inedible, but Tinkyada is really good.

^They make both organic and conventional versions. For organic, make sure you buy the blue packages.

Thanks, also, for the suggestion about spaghetti squash. I tried it years ago and didn't like it, but maybe I should try it again.

I've been successful and then I'll just have a small piece of bread and I'm like hooked on it again, ugh!

Dairy free isn't too hard, but I always miss cheese a bit

You're welcome. Well, I broke down and ate some Barilla pasta(semolina) today. It was the first time I had pasta in almost a year. I felt horrible afterwards, sluggish, headachy, moody, just a hot mess. lol I think you may be onto something with the gluten-free lifestyle. My mom seems to have some sensitivities to gluten as well. There's a genetic link with celiac disease. Fortunately for her, she's never been a "bread and pasta" person but it's a challenge for me but I definitely won't be having spaghetti binges anymore. lol

Pasta always makes me feel that way; sluggish, tired, headachey and just plain awful. But if I eat it with lots of protein the side effects aren't as bad. But sometimes I just crave pasta by itself :help:

I get sick from eating those things, but the worse one is the dairy products. I have dairy allergy.

I find brown rice to be good. Almond Milk and Coconut Milk is good. But too much whole grain food can cause beer belly. lol
