I know the commercials seem really corny and dumb but the movie is actually fucking awesome!! Me and some friends went to see it yesterday (against my wishes....i thought it would suck) but it really is amazing. It's in complete 3-D and if your a fan of visual effects you'll LOVE this movie. And it has a pretty good plot as well.

I concur...you should definitely try to see it in IMAX 3D - it was really, really fun.

I loved Ebert's review of it. Three stars. "To say the movie is over the top assumes you can see the top from here."

Zemeckis has definitely made improvements with this technology since Polar Express. But the avatars still have that eerie dazed zombie look, albeit a bit less this time. I suppose this movie can get by with it more, given the nature of the story. But in Polar Express it was downright creepy.

I would totally go see Beowulf in IMAX but i'm kind of in a pickle. The nearest IMAX theater to me is 10 hours away!!!

I would be much more likely to see it if it didn't try to ride off of the actual Beowulf. I can't stand when movies take the names of stories just to completely disregard 50-90% of what's in them.

My thoughts exactly. Time to watch Beowulf & Grendel, then. (no, I haven't yet)

Im still on the fence about seeing it. I liked the story but I know the movie is going to go in its own direction.

i would say wait for video and rent it if you really want to see it

was just okay

I don't know, maybe I'm being too picky, but from what I've seen in trailers/commercials the technology is still more obnoxious and distracting than anything else, especially when it comes to facial expression.

The fact Grendel's Mom (Angelina Jolie) is seducing Beowulf in the trailer tells me it has 0 fidelity to the epic poem without even seeing it.

I wanted to see the movie the first time I saw the preview months ago. Robert Z. is a such a good director how could it go wrong. He had more hit movies as many as Steven Spielberg.
Imax theater is only 15 minutes from me and I will definitely go see it next week.

I think that depends on your opinion of a "hit movie" and whether you feel all hits are equal

IMAX theater is only 10 minutes from my house, and so I went to see it there. I like to see in the wheelchair row, so that there is an empty aisle in front of me, but I think I might have been a tad close because some of the movie appeared to be happening behind me! Plus I tried to dodge some of the swords that were being thrust toward me, and a lot of stuff just fell into my lap.

True, the story is very different from the epic, and this bothered me a bit, but not enough for me not to enjoy the movie. It's not the Beowulf story. Also, it's supposed to be set in Denmark, and there are no mountains in Denmark! Check the IMDB comments (spoilers may be included). Also, there seemed to be too much snow, but then I really don't know how much snow Denmark gets. I always thought it was minimal because none of the pictures I've seen of Denmark ever had snow in them. Also, I've only seen snow in person about a dozen times myself.

Just to enlighten you guys: No, you are right, we don't have any mountains, but we do have snow
