I turned on the TV this morning and was confronted with the Coral Ridge broadcast, I opened The Advocate and saw a story about a guy who was censored for snuggling with his boyfriend on a plane. I watched Rush Limbaugh claim that MJ Fox facked his illiness in an ad. I can not belive how fucked up this country has become. I am so sick of the hate that comes out of our nation and can not understand how we have come to this.

Has it become worse over the past 5 years and a bit? If so, I wonder why that could be?

If you're not happy with the way things are going in this country, do something about it. Vote. Write letters to your elected officials. Attend rallies. Join groups. Give money to charities and causes. Don't hide. Come out to a neighbor. Get mad. Rise up.

Or, if you don't have the energy - move to a more progressive country. There are plenty out there. I'm thinking about it - I'm losing energy.

I vote, i have wrote to my so called elected reps. i will not move from my country however I belive that we are being disinfranchised at every turn and what is coming is very scary. I mean come on we have just suspended the right to hebes coprus what is next?

My mom wants me to move to Australia with her. Is Australia as full of hate as the US?

the hate and bigotry of the US knows no bounds... i was tired of living with it every day of my life... so i moved to here to canada... i have never felt so alive as i do right now... this is a new chapter away from all that crap... when the aclu starts backing things like the westborough baptist church its time to pack up and go.....

"Dr." D James Kennedy of Coral Ridge Church has an axe to grind against homosexuals. He devotes entire programs talking about how gays are hurting the USA. Other active anti-gay bigots are James Dobson, Rod Parsley, and John B Book. All except John B Book have a very large following.

Oh Sweetie,

Don't let it get you down.....

We're in a minor election year.... (It'll even get worse in two years, sad to
say...)

The entire 'gay marriage' thing is just an easy hot button for the politicians
to push.....

There still are plenty of 'God-fearing' folks in the 'square states' that quiver
at the very thought of us taking it up the ass, let alone adopting children...

Funny though, it only come up during an election year, it'll pass.

Things will change *slowly*, trust me.

You're lumping together more or less at random things that come from different places and are aimed at different targets. Nor is hate a factor in all of them.

Try to develop a sense of perspective that isn't based on the media scandal du jour. Some things are important and some aren't.

With millions of Americans traveling millions of miles every day, one incident with a couple of guys snogging on a plane hardly qualifies as a tidal wave of anti-gay hatred. And anyway it was, what? A month ago? Most people have moved on by now.

Everybody that wants to have an opinion about Rush Limbaugh has already formed it. He was just doing what he always does. And as soon as Michael J. Fox makes a political ad, he's fair game for criticism. To believe that he's immune because he has Parkinson's is incredibly patronizing. The fact that Rush was full of shit as usual doesn't really enter into it.

Same thing with these church guys. They've been saying the same thing about gays since the dawn of time. I don't see any reason to believe they're convincing more people than they used to -- quite the reverse in fact.

It sounds like what you're saying is, Anybody that disagrees with me must be full of hate. But what about you -- is there anybody you hate? Do you hate George Bush? Do you hate Rush Limbaugh or the guy from Coral Ridge? Or is hate just a normal part of the political process?

The beginning of political maturity is the ability to understand your opponent's point of view. Not agree with it -- just understand where they're coming from and why they believe what they do.

And PS, it's not just this country. Nearly any place you look in the world is crawling with hatred. British liberals hate Bush. The Croatians hate the Serbs. Arabs hate nearly everybody. People in Georgia hate Russians, etc. etc. Even our dear friends the Canadians seem to hate us from time to time.

Better suck up and get used to the hate. We'll never see the day when 2 guys can snuggle in public without heads being turned.

I was out for a walk in the park a while back -- not a citified park but a fairly woodsy place -- and I saw a girl sitting on a guy's lap making out with him. When I got closer I realized they were both girls!

I have to admit I blushed a little. But yay, good for them!

Our media is totally off the wall..
It's gone from reporting the news in a somewhat accurate, truthfull, and honest way, to a war for ratings. AND..lets face it..gossip and smut sells.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the respect thing. I think that the main thing America is missing right now is respect.

I agree, but why pick on the US? I don't see much lack of hatred going on anywhere. Nor do I think that thinks are any different now than they have been in the past.

The vast majority of the damned human race has always put a disproportionate amount of its energy into hating everybody who's different from them. I guess it's always easier to blame somebody else for your problems.

You're just one in millions and if you can learn to work together and respect one another's opinions then everyone is doomed.

I think that says the opposite of what you want it to say? :-)

Even our dear friends the Canadians seem to hate us from time to time.

That'll end when the United States erects it's 4,000-mile fence along the Canadian-U.S. border as Congress voted to do, to keep out the hundreds of thousands of jobless illegal immigrant terrorists that flood into North Dakota. Just ask the Minute Men who set up camps and aim their guns into Canada from spring to fall, but don't hang around during the winter.

But the fence won't stop lying U.S. politicians from stating that Canada was the source for the 9/11 terrorists.

And it will end when Canada has no more room for hatred because it will be too busy occupying North Korea, as we have nothing better to do, according to a Replublican election ad. No mention in the ad, of course, that Canada is fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, where the second-highest death toll among Canadian soldiers is due to the U.S. repeatedly bombing and strafing our soldiers.

A disinterested onlooker would wonder in which direction the hatred flows.

Thank you for illustrating my point so beautifully!

Two women making out is accepted in society though, but certainly not 2 guys. I actually saw 2 women locking lips in a Wal Mart parking lot of all places! They noticed me noticing them and then they went back to their session.

I still can't believe, after my paying attention for 35 years, and after this world has changed so profoundly, that gay people (and abortion, pornography) are STILL their most strident issues!

There is still little outcry over things that have raised (or increased) their ugly presences in those intervening years, such as:
global warming
corporate greed, crime and agendas affecting ALL of our lives
divorce, adultery
imperialism
class warfare (waged by the rich, not the poor)
more and more wars

and I could go on and on. Only global warming, among these, is a "new" issue - the rest have been around since long before any of us were born, but they have all become far more intense the past 10-20 years. Why have so many of ther higher-profile evangelists not changed their topics of outrage AT ALL in the past 35 years? I heard the antigay hatred, anti-porn and abortion arguments all the time in 1970-71, and it hasn't changed a bit. The only "cosmetic makeover" is that the gay bashing now includes the idea of gay marriage, which was nowhere on the radar in 1970. And it bothers me that I don't think I have **ever** heard an evangelist mention how terrible homicide is (unless it's killing the not-yet-born).

They really need to get their messages on focus, and speak out against the newest and most horrific scourge that this United States has ever known: flag burning. Hehehehehe
