Dude, gay or straight, what is wrong with asking if he wants to do something some night or weekend(coffee, bowling, movie, etc)? Thats what friends(new and old) do. All these people kept saying take it slow and look where you are. How about taking it naturally, sometimes it feels right sooner than other other times. It seems from your posts you could have asked him to do something outside of class a month ago or longer and it would have been a completely natural thing.
