So could you please explain why someone who only ever uses his phone to make phonecalls (and maybe a text message once in a blue moon) might want one of these?

It also works out a lot cheaper then having all the seperate things, especially with the subsidised contract prices.

I would still prefer to have all the separate devices. I subscribe to the philosophy that it's better to have a lot of small tools that each do one specific job very well that it is to have one big one that makes a half-arsed attempt at doing everything. So if I want a computer that can fit in my pocket, I'll buy an eeePC, and keep my phone for making phonecalls. If I want a camera, I'll buy a top-of-the-range digital SLR, and keep my phone for making phonecalls. Same thing with music players and GPS's and everything else that these so-called "smart" phones are supposed to do.

(why yes, I am a unix weenie. Why do you ask?)

I hardly ever use my phone and camera, mostly just the internet. It is better to say that I want a mobile computer that fits into my pocket, but also with added phone and camera features for when I do need them.

The mobile market is looking to continuously expand mobile devices up to computer standards, in 5-10 years time, both desktops and laptops could be completely replaced with mobile devices including smartphones.

The most unattractive thing about mobile computing however is not the device, but the contract. Mobile data tariffs are still too expensive compared to normal broadband, and the service isnt as good either. Hopefully that will also improve in the future.

not true.
company A) offer cheaper mobile phone plan.
compan B) offer cheaper mobile broadband plan

You need 2 sim cards to use the 2.
How can you put 2 sims into Omnia or Iphone ?
