Well, bluntly put, because the children in churches are already indoctrinated. There's no evangelism within the walls of a church. That has been understood by the Fundamentalists for over a century now, if only talked about within the fold. But, with diminishing birth rates, that spells decline for all except Catholics and Mormons.
And, to be fair, the proselytizing is following the drag queen contingent to where the next generation is, or at least to the ones whose parents take them to libraries. Children were not ever in attendance in night clubs or gay spots where drag queens go onstage. Drag queens don't typically appear in grocery stores, football stadiums, skate parks, or other places with kids who are disposed to listening and learning.
So, drag queens sought out reading times in libraries. Unquestionably gay men were already there in those roles, but without sequins and wigs. Kids were already hearing from gay men. When those kids went home, if they were at an age when they were questioning sex or gender roles or pair bonding, conversations ensued about "why does Mr. Smith live alone?" But that wasn't enough. The drag queen advocates needed to make a statement and wanted to invite a controversial avenue.
So, it's not enough to decry the attempt at indoctrination by the religious or conservative while pretending it wasn't happening by the drag queen side. a
Drag is not the definition or equation of being gay. It is a small subset. It got standing because it was brave enough to stand up and be outlandish, but it doesn't represent gays any more than Jeffrey Dahmer did. It represents gays who want to defy gender roles in an audacious, and sometimes entertaining, way.
Drag Queens do not encourage violence against Christians in dark alleys. You are participating in homophobic violence, by pretending that there is some kind of similarity, some kind of parity. That is just a lie you try to push on everyone else because you sympathize with the hater on some level. There would be no Drag Queens demonstrating their humanity if the people you just excused were not crucifying us to fenceposts. We all understand internalized homophobia, and in the end, it's just homophobia.
This is a vile apology for gay bashers trying to sound like reason. Pretending there is equivalence, pretending there is a similar motive, pretending to be accepting while supporting the hate, bigotry, and violence that is the foundational reason that gay men reach out to everyone and try to explain that we are all Human together.
Fuck this dishonesty, I do not care to make excuses for any of us to appease the hatred and fear of bigots who think
you are just as vile a pervert as everyone else who sucks cock no matter how diligently you promote their hatred.

CELEBRATE our diversity. Let the whole world see the strength, the fucking courage, the artistry, the determination to be who we are in the face of all their hate, to be ourselves
no matter what.
