Do anyone recommend an great printer that is a bang for my buck? my school library charge 10 cents per page and its is a waste of my money.. i want a printer that is good but not too cheap if ya know what i mean?

That would depend on several things.

What kind of printing are you talking about? Black & white text, color drawings, color photos, or what?

How many copies of whatever would you typically need?

What operating system on your computer? (Windows, Mac, Linux?)

My computer is window, i need lot of copy since i am in college and i need to print my notetaker's notes.. it have to be black and white text..it can also have a copy machine too but not necessary

I seriously miss my old HP Deskjet 932C. I've used several on the Deskjet line, and they've all been great for me.

I've found the copier/printer combos are nice for convenience, but are so damn bulky.

What I've found to be the best are the old HP workgroup printers - if you're not doing anything fancy.

I have a LJ5 that is just a tank. It's slow as shit, but it's reliable. Old lexmark workgroup printers are good, too.

Avoid the Brother DCP-585CW at all costs, don't even take it if you can get it for free.

Before that I had a HP all-in-one; good hardware, crappy (scan- and driver-)software.

I have an HP Deskjet that I bought for $30 at a computer store. It is my 3rd deskjet and I just love it. It prints b/w text lickety-split and prints photos at studio-quality. It uses ink cartridges that are relatively inexpensive, as well, so you won't go broke if you use it heavily. It is fairly small and weighs about 3 lbs! I use it almost daily and have no bad things to say about it. As for other brands, I have tried Lexmark and didn't care at all for it. Clunky interface and very slow print speeds. Cheers!

For lots of black and white text economically, a monochrome laser printer is what you need. Inkjet refills are ridiculously expensive (two refills often cost more than the printer itself) and they empty rapidly.

A brand new monochrome laser can be bought for about $100. The cheapest models are from Samsung and Brother.

If you decide you would like a scanner, you can get a monochrone laser printer with color scanner for less than $200.

Tiger Direct has a color laser (refurbished) for just $100, which is a good buy. But beware that the replacement toner cartridges cost a lot more than for a mono laser:

monochrome laser is what you want for cheap b/w text printing :)

as looseliam i also still own an old hp lj5 .. it's a brick, but it's fucking working since 10 years or so :)

I recently purchased the Canon MX870. I prints in b/w and color. You can scan documents too. I am very pleased with it.

Like T-Rexx and Corny said, a monochrome laser is often the most economical if you don't need color. I have a Brother model from several years ago. Some printers will keep printing as long as you tell it to, even if the toner is low, which is okay if you don't care how it looks. Other are programmed, I think, to stop printing when they detect insufficient toner and you can't work around that. Sorry, I don't know current models.

I agree wholeheartedly! I've been amazed at how I don't miss color (I don't print photos).

Nice!! i need one that have cheap ink and doesnt use lot of it.. one of my friend recommend Kodiak printer but it it seem only for print pictures?

^ Yes, your friend knows what he is talking about.

The Kodak printers are all color ink jets. They are excellent for printing color photographs (as you might expect from Kodak), because the dyes are claimed to be stable on the paper for 100 years. (Most color inkjet print fades to invisible after a few years). But how Kodak can claim they will last 100 years, I don't know!.

Also, Kodak has pledged to keep the cost of replacement cartridges reasonable (about $15 to $20 right now, compared to $40 to $50 for competitors). If you're going to buy an inkjet printer, Kodak is a very good way to go (unless you are on Linux, which Kodak does not support).

However, for B & W text, a monochrome laser is better and cheaper.
