I moved to D.C. less than a year ago and have met quite a few nice folks. I'm not totally into the whole bar/club scene. I've met people through volunteering, book stores and many through museums (smithsonians...).

If you're into swimming you might want to check out DC Aquatics Club. They're a member of IGLA (International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics) which has member teams all over the world.

Good ways to meet guys in Northern VA, DC......???

How about...become a Congressman!

Hey there, I just moved to Arlington, VA three weeks ago and am finally getting settled in. Thought I'd check JUB since it's been a few months--I'd mostly been busy with work and other things. Anyone else here live on the Orange Line corridor? Some people say NoVa is sterile, but I'm liking it so far. I've seen a few hotties, too. I like the vibe here. Any words of wisdom from the longtimers here? Anyway, hi all!

Oh, to be more specific, where are some of you guys' favourite hangouts? I've been going to Murky Coffee on weekends to read and do some light work, and am interested in knowing where some other cool coffee'ish or bookstore-type places are. I'm mostly looking for places to relax and work, but it would also be great if the clientele there are friendly and open, i.e. maybe a good place to meet a person (not as the main goal of going there, but as a possible side effect). Thanks!

Sorry -- thought I'd give this thread a bump since I initially posted past 1 EDT. Was just down by Clarendon tonight -- that place is hopping. I made eye contact for about 5 SECONDS with a total hottie around my age right outside a bookstore, and I stupidly did not do anything about it -- just stood there slackjawed. And then she went into the bookstore, and I didn't want to seem creepy following her in. I gotta have some more balls next time in this new town. . .

It's been a few years since I've socialized much in D.C. and NoVa, but when I lived there you couldn't hardly swing a cat without hitting a gay or bi guy.

I truly believe at least 1/4 of the federal employees are gay.

The Blade will list oodles of gay and bi organizations.

"Couldn't hardly swing a cat with hitting a gay or bi guy" -- haha, that's a funny image, but you're right -- I do seem to get that vibe from a fair number of the guys here. I'm sure part of it for me is the contrast coming from a west coast suburb to a bigger city, but I'm sure there's also a DC-specific effect due to this being a highly educated and ambitious place.

One of the best things about being in a new town is that few people here know me, so it's a fresh start, in a manner of speaking. My ideal is to be a ballsier, sharper, and edgier version of the same person I was before.

Adams morgan and dupont circle is the "Gay" side of town from what i heard..
