  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

Google searches for ‘Am I gay’ or ‘Am I lesbian’ increase 1,300 per cent since 2004

It is an interesting topic. The article is rambling, conjectural, woefully unfocused and without enough information to understand much about the Google data. But shitty journalism is hardly the preserve of gay advocate sites, so there's that.

Is the rise parallel to the rise in household getting the internet and the rise of Google as the dominant search engine?

None of the top five states are in the Bible Belt, the supposed hell for repressed gay teens. What is the implication of that?

Is there any correlative data to reveal what the average age or gender was of the searcher?

None of that is to say I disagree on the value of the internet in changing the prospects of gay lives. I readily testify that my own progression was chiefly the product of getting online and getting beyond the world of my small town, and JUB was the most important part of that, flawed though it be.

Knowledge is power. Sadly, we live in a new age of misinformation, so our greatest good could be to be supportive of curricula and organizations that teach critical thinking skills, so that young minds and old both come to learn discernment and wisdom so that they can recognize the truth from lies, as well as the telltale signs.

Thank you for raising the topic.

This article aside, I have to think that if one uses Google heavily, then Google might have enough data on the individual user to be able to come up with an answer: "Based on your porn preferences, the answer is Yes, You Are Gay!"

It is not neccessary to use Google heavily, if you use it at all, it will follow you around, snooping and spying. I have not done a Google search since Duck Duck Go started 15 years ago and have not missed it.
Remember when people said " Google is your friend" They don't say that anymore.

Google also promoted itself with "Don't be evil."

That didn't last long.

Do you like to suck dick?

Why yes. Yes I do.

GAY!!!

The states with most searches (except NH) are certainly Bible Belt states! Not especially Southern, and Utah's uniquely Mormon, but Iowa, Indiana, and West Virginia are full of churches of many and no affiliation.
