Well I got my 2600xt the other day but am having a problem with it having driver errors i have tried a number of different things right now it seems to be fine i have turned off aero and that has made it stable i think i am going to try and keep it running to make sure everything is working

I am pretty sure i have nailed the problem to aero in vista but well see

i say this because i have played HL 2 at full everything for a few hours so i dont think it is related to the hardware being under stress ill try it out on bioshock when i get it and see if i have any problems

do you guys know of any other possible problems and fixes if it still plays up

anyway ill get back to you guys tommorow with the details of whether its still going or the drivers crashed again

well its been running for about 9 hours now and hasn't crashed which is the longest that i have gone without the problem which is

atikmdag has stopped responding

and the exact thing which happens is i will get one message after restating the drivers the first time then it will run for another 20 min to an hour then it will do it again this time it goes into a loop until it finally makes the computer unresponsive and i have to do a hard restart

I would suggest pulling off the fan connector, sticking a couple of wires up the connector and connecting to the nearest 12 volt connection so the fan is going flat out and so rule out the heat issue

well i am leaving aero off for the time being i left it on overnight playing SG Atlantis episodes and its still working now so that seems to work ok

i think ill leave aero off to everything is much faster with it off i didn't realise how much of a difference it made

so for now i am just going to keep using basic and see if it will come up with the error at all

Have you looked for the simple things first? Did u go to ATI's site to see if there was a new driver? Perhaps d/l a small app that shows and records processor temp. I know trawler covered this with letting the fan run full speed.
Have you tried pulling the card and re-inserting it?

Sometimes its hard to see the forest for the trees:)

It might be interesting to run a 3d heavy graphics prog like some game or something and see if it replicates the problem. I imagine 3d heavy apps such as Aero interface cause the card to work hard and get hot.

Well ati have released new drivers so i am trying out aero again but it has nothing to do with the graphics card working hard i played bioshock for about 3 hours in DX9c mode because there is a driver problem in DX10 which is probably the issue with aero hopefully the new drivers fix the problem

i think they may since as soon as the came out vista jumped up and down saying they were there and was a possible solution so fingers crossed
