A bizarre situation recently happened to me. I sold my old iPhone 4 to a friend of mine. I made sure to remove the SIM card and I wiped the phone back to factory settings. However, when I logged into my Grindr account this morning on my new iPhone 4S, I noticed the settings on my profile had changed and my friend's picture was suddenly on my account! My profile text was still on there. I don't know what happened, but I went and reset the account into the application settings.

What happened? How did my Grindr account retain itself on my old iPhone 4 for my friend to use, and now I can re-access it on my iPhone 4S?

My old phone was AT&T too and my new one is Verizon.

No clue .. but I recently read something about raunchy iMessages from an Apple employee ending up at a kid's phone. I would guess there is some hardware serial number that those programs use?

^ I don't have the iCloud settings activated.

I read that story too, Corny. I asked him if any iMessages were going through and he said no.

wild speculation here, as I am only familiar with iOS on a user level.

Did you remove the program before wiping the phone? It is possible that a "factory reset" will only restore default settings for default programs, while leaving settings for other programs untouched.

Grindr accounts are supposed to be linked to your Apple ID, but Grindr also know your UDID (Unique Device ID number). Sounds to me like Grindr linked the UDID to the account somehow. I know of a few people this has happened to - it's a real Grindr bug.

Contact Grindr and advise them of your new UDID. (You can see the UDID in iTunes when you're phone's connected by clicking on "Serial Number" in the main panel.)

^ why the heck do they suppose it's ANY good idea to use a hardware serial?
