Grindr or gay bars for dating?

So, I have moved to a new country to study, and since it's not an English speaking country, it's so hard to make friends here. I have used Grindr to hook up with some men and it's been working fine, but I have been recently thinking of actually dating someone and not just having a one night stand or a no strings attached sex. So, which is the best place to find someone to date based on your experiences: gay bars or Grindr?

I'm stepping a bit outta line, definitely take what I have to say with a grain of salt.
I don't have any dating experience, but it sounds like bars are the way to go. Because bars are places to socialize, up to and including hook ups, whereas Grindr is more for hookups. A hook up can turn into more, I know a few members met that way, but it seems like the stars kinda need to align on that.

With a bar you might not find a partner but you may make a friend who can then send people they think you'd be good with your way. So even if you don't get a date there's more opportunity even if you don't make your goal.
Of course there's no reason you couldn't take advantage of both! It's not like the Grindr gods are gonna smite you

Though I do think the language barrier will be a bit of an issue. I mean if it gets in the way of making friends, surely it'd get even more in the way of striking romance, right?

I actually feel like the bar experience would be a lot better, but as you stated, the language barrier is going to get in the way. One good side to Grindr is that I have my profile text in English so I only get contacted by people who can speak English, but then again, the odds of finding someone who wants to actually date are too low.

I can go for both as you mentioned, but it's kind of time and energy consuming (especially that I don't have much of free time on my hands). So, I guess I'm gonna give it a go in the bar and see how things go.

Maybe a bit of an out there suggestion, but I wonder if it'd be possible for you to essentially replicate how your Grindr profile signals to other people that you speak English to the bar setting? Like, maybe you could wear a shirt with your country's flag prominent or something with prominent English text?

Your place of study might have some kind group for finding other similar exchange students. Maybe you'd be able to find people who've had to navigate the language barrier longer and you could find some English 'hotspots.' Depending on where you're at... There could possibly be some tourist spots that'd be more likely to attract an international crowd to the surrounding areas.

Your experience with Grindr might be of use as well! Think back to where you've had hookups, have they been mostly in a similar area?
