ok so tonight i worked at blockbuster and well one of my managers is gay and he was just so cool today and stuff so i am really gonna love working with him... anyways the grr part... he answered the phone today and semi soon after answering it he slammed the phone down after yelling "well you can just suck it" after going out to smoke a cigarette he came back to tell what happened... a couple customers from earlier called us and after a brief questioning got to saying "'you really shouldn't be havin queers workin there faggot"'

yeah it had my manager fuming all day... he filed a report for our gm with their membership number saying what happened and yeah... i expected this out in california definitly in west texas but never here... i still love this place but damn... my manager was talkin about callin them back so we could kick their asses... i of course was very angry too since well yeah... so grr.... i hates thems.... :mad:

Actually, Austin is the only city in Texas were they they are known for being more open minded. They care more about environmental issues, etc. I have a USPS sales person from Austin call me every few weeks so that I can order more supplies from her and I like to give her a hard time about it not being safe to drive outside of the city that she lives in...lol

homophobia in austin is the bigger thing... austin is like this intense blue star in a red state (repub state demo city i never remember colors) its just not often seen... not to mention this was my first experience with it out here....

my sister (who knows more about discrimination laws then i do) told me that we can have them unwelcome in the places we work... which because we work blockbuster corporate we can switch shifts with anyone in a corporate store.... since that manager is a shift whore they may be blocked in all the blockbusters within 15 minutes of ours which i thought was cool...

umm honey i lived in camarillo which is about 10-20 minutes from you... it was fairly openly discriminative as well as through most of ventura county...

As One Who Is In A Management Position Myself - I Find The Reaction Of Your Manager To Be Unbelievably Unprofessional. I Think The Proper Response Would Have Been To Inform These Customers That Blockbuster Is An Equal Opportunity Employer And Does Not Discriminate On The Basis Of . . .

At That Point - If I Were He - I Would Have Ended The Conversation Thusly: "Since You Seem To Have Objections To Our Hiring Practices, It Is Not The Policy Of Blockbuster To Create Discomfort For Our Customers - Therefore You Can Be Assured That Your Membership Is Now Cancelled Effective Immediately - Thank You For Your Past Patronage." Click.

Bravo! :=D:

He said Austin, not Texas. Most of Austin divorces itself from Texas. Although, some Texasans do sneak in occasionally, and they get obnoxious. Austin is a paradise in the middle of a desert.

Oh, the joys of dealing with the public. I'd last about 1 hour before I was in jail for battery.

i know where your coming from and i do agree it was fairly unprofessional... austin is also a fairly unprofessional place.... but anywho... i would have dealt with it more like that as well had it been in person or with more mature people... since they were probably 16-18 and the fact that they called to annoy us doesn't show that they are very mature individuals... we also cannot cancel their membership we can only ban then from individual stores... the fact that the mod at the time takes shifts at a lot of other locations willl make it slightly difficult because they will be banned from all the locations he (and i) work at... i know i sound like i am defending him and thats because i got a bit of history from him as he fumed a bit.... he did calm down shortly after so it didn't really have an affect on buissness (he did mostly stand outside and smoke a cigarette and were weren't very busy aside some usuals that knew him).... anywho while i understand your point i know i wouldn't have done the same but he has a bad history so i do give him a lot of slack with that....

What a crappy thing to hear from a customer. I don't think that your manager should have said what he did but as you mentioned, Austin is kind of unconventional in their ways (Which I like, not bashing). I don't know what I would have said to the guy as I wasn't in his position. Hopefully ya'll won't have to deal with them again.
