Guy Ritchie has come aboard to direct Warner Bros.' "Sherlock Holmes"

Ritchie's also working on a rewrite/polish of Tony Peckham's script, based on Wigram's upcoming comicbook "Sherlock Holmes." Studio's eying a 2010 release.

The logline remains under wraps, but execs at Warners are aiming to reinvent Holmes and sidekick Dr. John H. Watson. Wigram's noted that the new Holmes would be more adventuresome and take advantage of his skills as a boxer and swordsman.

Arthur Conan Doyle's stories about Holmes, written in the late 19th century, emphasized the detective's intellectual brilliance and power of deductive reasoning. The pipe-smoking character has been portrayed in more than 200 film and TV shows.

Ritchie is directing "RocknRolla," for which he also wrote the screenplay, for Joel Silver's Dark Castle Entertainment.

Sherlock has always been adaptable. And with Doyle's blessing. Back when the stories were still being written, somebody attempted to write a play featuring Sherlock Holmes. He wrote to Doyle and asked, "May I marry Holmes?" Doyle wrote back, "Marry him, murder him, do whatever you like with him."

I personally would prefer a period piece as well, but if Doyle wouldn't mind "Sherlock in Outer Space", it'd be presumptuous for me to say anything.

I like Sherlock Holmes and I think I'll watch this one although not one of 2009 movie that I've been waiting for

another reason why I want to see this movie is Rachel McAdams...I like her!
