Gwen Stefani. GAG ME WITH A SPOON!!

Much of “The Sweet Escape” sounds forced and secondhand; it’s one thing to emulate Madonna, another to be playing catchup with Fergie.

Who gave her that review? That is beyond fucked up. Was I the only one that noticed The Dutchess was basically a carbon copy of L.A.M.B.? Gwen isn't emulating anyone (Well, maybe a little Madge). She's just being herself. Give her a little credit for being original, and taking a risk that not many others would.

That one was NY Times, and honestly I agree. It was the VERY first thing I thought when I heard Wind It Up--that it sounds VERY much like something Fergie would've done.

It's weird because Fergie is almost a cheap copy of Gwen...and this new album sounds a lot like Fergie. So it's kind of like when you're copying pictures on a Xerox machine--and the quality is low when you make a copy of a copy.

No. I noticed it too. Gwen arrived with this new funk-pop-fucked-up-crazy-batshit style first. Now she's coming back for round 2 of her own game... not one that Pissypants started.

It's basically exactly the same thing that she did on her previous album. And is it just me...or does this song sound like Fergies music? I havn't heard the rest of the album so I won't pass judgement yet. But if its all like "Wind It Up" then I probobly won't even listen to the rest.

My god!!! Fergie copied Gwen's L.A.M.B. album! Gwen just kept on doing her own thing, that's why it sounds similar!

Gwen's solo work is standard issue club shit, for the most part, and club music doesn't need substance to make you dance. There's a version of 'Wind it up' that doesnt have all that Sound of Music and yodeling shit, it's the only one I can stomach.

'Breaking Up' is the best faux-krunk shit evah!

ok this album isnt as good as L.A.M.B, but i must give credit where credit is due, gwen stefani has incredible originality! i have never seen a singer take so many risks, and its so refreshing to see. I much prefer "wind it up" to any of Fergies songs.

She's just being market-oriented, in the business of making money, that's all. She does whatever sells, and this will sell.

For all of us, No Doubt fans, it's a lil bit weird to see her so much changed, though.

Wind it Up has grown on me... but I downloaded the rest of the album and the other songs all sounded like they were created in 10 minutes, like she couldn't really be bothered. Shame, I really liked her first album. she should have released Bubble Pop Electric - such a cool song!

a girlfriend played the new album in her car when we were house hunting for her yesterday here in the lovely Toronto. It was pretty bad. Except a song called 'Early Winter' and 'Wonderful Life'. But even those got on my nerves after a while.
