I rented Hairspray- the remake not the original, last night after missing out on seeing it at the movies and I must say, what a fantastic movie it was.

Honestly, I didn't really pay much attention to the hype- I had wanted to see it because my favourite actress Allison Janney was in it- so I was pleasently surprised that it had amazing songs and such a moving and great storyline.

Although I'm not too sure about John Travolta- he was ok at it, but I honestly reckon that the character could have been better with a female actress.

And as for Zac Effron- what do people see in him? Good actor yeah but good looking?

LOVED the movie. John was fine. Could've he spoken higher? probably. But it was still fun. Zac is cute in the movie but the best part of the movie is Nikki Blonsky.

I'm a huge fan of Hairspray - I absolutely love the original movie, the musical and the new movie based on the musical.

It's kind of a tradition for a man to play the role of Edna, though - in the musical the role was played by Harvey Fierstein, who played Robin William's brother in Mrs Doubtfire and looks a lot more like a drag queen than John Travolta =D

I went to see the new stage production in London before Xmas, and was blown away – it was fabulous!!!!!

And I really didn't think I would enjoy it.

Edna was played by Michael Ball and she was brilliant!

but I honestly reckon that the character could have been better with a female actress.
That's the worst thing you can say about Hairspray. The role was created by the late, great, Divine and since then the role has always been played by a man. It wouldn't work with a woman playing the role.

but I honestly reckon that the character could have been better with a female actress.
Michael's the most convincing looking woman of those that I've seen (either in film or pictures) play Edna.

I've only seen the original, but I'm dying to see John in drag. The only thing better would have been if Harvey Feirstein would have done it.I LOVE Harvey!!!

I LOVE Harvey!!!
Except he can't sing. It's very hard to listen to the OBC recording because Harvey's not a singer. At least John Travolta can sing (as can Michael Ball who's playing Edna in the West End production).
