the whole thing is so silly. they all sound so stupid. and completely unshocking. if you've been an online gamer for a while this shit is so common. i have seen and heard far more racist harassment in the multiplayer gamer arena.

LOL i actually play halo 3 myself. And this video was funny, yet still fucked up. Some of those one liners where juat damn funny. "Gayboy will have your back...your backdoor, that is."!!!! But thats the power of the net, when nobody knows who yo really are. Don't worry GayBOy i have your back bro, im gonna add you,

Hahaha, this online bullying is so stupid.

They only have the balls to say this shit because they're at home sitting away from you.

I wouldn't call that homophobia as much as I would call it just plain hatred, cowardice, and stupidity.

just another day on xboxlive with yet another group of idiots. Like I've been saying since kindergarden....the human gene pool needs a good dose of Chlorine.

im sry is it funny that i laughed a little?

but this is really nothing compared to other things online

I laughed at the "cover your back" bit.

But seriously, is this surprising at all? Especially with the obnoxious Halo community for the most part.

Some of it was funny. But really isnt this rather expected?

Lol the whole thing was funny. I mean, why would your username be gayboy anyway? I can't stand guys like that, where being gay is their whole personality.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for being proud and not hiding being gay, but seriously, in some situations it's just stupid. Why does his sexuality have to be any part of playing a video game?

It just seems stupid to me. In that situation what did he expect? There is no room in a username like that to express anything and people are only left with the thought of the gay stereotype and you know making fun of stereotypes is a really common thing (the dumb blonde, drunk irish even stuffy librarians with beards)....

I'm pretty sure he made the name to prove a point, not for serious business.

Besides, stereotypes are fun, especially since they are all true about everyone.

The best thing to do in that situation is to kick their asses on Slayer like I do..

Getting 25 kills a round and then telling those idiots they got their asses kicked by faggot is an awesome feeling lol..

Online gamers are retarded anyway.

I think the point was to showcase the homophobia in Xbox live. Regardless of whether or not someone flaunts their sexual orientation, it isn't okay for that kind of behavior to exist. Do you think that if gaymers didn't put it on display that homophobia in online gaming would go away?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that the world of online gaming is male dominated. Being superior in game is not enough, trash talking helps, and hey, whats a better way to insult someone's manhood than to say they take it in the ass? Insulting a guy in general by insinuating he is gay is so in right now. The fact that who we are is used as one of the most common insults is a pretty big deal.

And just so you know some of my experience in it, I currently play wow in a raiding guild where many of the members are homophobic. My hope that is I'll prove myself in terms of skill to them, and they'll like my personality, etc and later they'll find out I'm gay. I'll either get kicked out or change some of their minds about gay people. Maybe both.

I don't know if its the best way to go about it, but either way it should be interesting.

I know it was homophobic. But at the same time, I was laughing so hard.

Maybe it's because I'm an online gamer myself and this sort of thing is the language of the sub-culture and not necessarily malicious.

Yeah I came off as offended in my post, I'm really not. I know I should be but.. the backdoor comment was pretty funny.

Was just trying to show (what I think is) the creator's intended point of making the video.

Major Nelson Responds To Halo 3 Video

gaygamer.net said:
So, amidst all the hub bub over the homophobic Halo 3 video, a voice of reason has come to share some insight. Xbox Community leader Major Nelson emailed me with his take on the whole situation. Whatever side of the argument you fall on, I think we all agree that some of the things said in this video were completely uncalled for and Major Nelson has a few things to say concerning how to protect yourself from this kind of a situation.

I just watched (listened) to the video you posted on your site. Needless to say, it was disappointing to see how some Xbox LIVE members behave. As you know, that is not the type of behavior we support. With over 8-million members, it's unfortunate that some members decide to act like this. I want to point out a few things that ALL Xbox Live members can do to ensure a enjoyable experience:

1) Play online only with friends.

2) Turn off voice from non-friends. This is a system level setting that work across all games, and as you can imagine, will only allow you to hear what your friends will say. You can find details on how to set it up here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/support/familysettings/live/xbox360/familysettings-communications.htm

I also want to let your readers know that if they EVER encounter behavior like that in any game, they should use the in dash feedback system to file a complaint:

3) File a complaint. Using the dashboard complaint system, file a communications complaint. We DO act on complaints, so I highly encourage people file complaints where appropriate. Details on how to file a complaint here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908640?sd=xbox

Also, I'd be happy to play with you and some of your readers sometime as well.

Thanks Major, we appreciate the support that you and your team have given. In my personal experience, Xbox LIVE has been a great way for me to game with friends I might not otherwise get to see or hang out with. Xbox has done a great job bringing the gaming community together despite the ignorance of certain players.

I think i might join www.gaygamer.net I've been looking for some gay friends to play video games with on Xbox live. nobody on here seems to want to bite so I may just sign up to this video game forum!

The online gaming community is mostly made up of teenage and 20-something males. That alone should tell you that there will be a very high percentage of homophobic, sexist, racist, perverted idiots spouting off insensitive remarks like foul mouthed little children. I expect that from them and it is why I don't do online gaming. There's no way I'd listen to that crap for hours on end. I'd much rather play single player games.

actually the best feature is the mute player feature that xbox live offers! :) I use it alot!

Honestly, it's sad that you guys are making such a big deal over this. These are just some redneck assholes who have nothing better to do then play video games and try to PSYCHE OUT their competition by any means possible. It's also them making complete asses of themselves, because they're insulting this guy miles away when they don't even know them.

IMO, the guy is looking for attention, otherwise he wouldn't have picked a name that he known would spark some controversy with other gamers.
