So an X-ray shows I broke my pinky toe (banged it hard on the bed frame by mistake). Has this happened to anyone here? Is there a long term complication from this? The doctor wasn't too helpful and I just want to make sure I treat it right. I can't even step on it now !

Yes, I broke a toe once. I accidentally walked into a door!

I didn't bother with the doctor or hospital. I just taped the toe to the one next to it with Elastoplast and waited for a couple of weeks for it to heal. There have been no long term problems. In fact, I can't even remember exactly which toe it was.

Yes, and doctors often do nothing for the pinkie for a simple fracture.

The big toe on my right foot... twice. The first time about 50 years ago in a swimming pool. I broke it again a few years later when I stumbled over a rock. It doesn't bend very far now. Nothing to be done about broken toes. Broken hips on the other hand...

Yes, many times

As a teenager I had brittle bones for a couple of years and broke my fingers and toes regularly
The only way to treat them is to strap them up to an adjoining digit and leave it to heal. With fingers you run the risk of slightly crooked healing but toes heal fairly straight

I have. Just taped it to the adjacent toe for a few weeks and it healed perfectly.

^ This.

And painkillers.
