I can't tell you because I was circumcised as an infant. However, it works, it feels good, I have good sensation and everything else. But I hope the cream works for you. Oh! One more thing, I wonder if something like Preputioplasty would work instead of removal....

I had similar issues with my foreskin my entire life and often considered circumcision. You said that you cannot retract it when erect. So you can retract it while flacid?
Up until about two years ago (I'm 29), I was never able to retract my foreskin at all. I could get a very small portion of the tip out, but that was it. This was a result of not retracting throughout my youth. It was never painful or hindered sexual activity, but was difficult to clean. I basically never even saw what was underneath it until recently.

So about two years ago, when I was coming around to accepting my attraction to men and watching gay porn, I did quite a bit of research online. I learned about phimosis, but also some of the methods used to cure it. I never went to a doctor about it.I almost even purchased an instrument I found online which you can use to stretch the foreskin opening, but opted not to. I soon began the practice of simply pulling the foreskin back, as much as I could (even if very little) without it being too painful, and holding it for bit. I did this EVERY time I urinated, showered, or masturbated, especially during masturbation as semen allows the skin to become more flexible. Saliva helps as well as it is a natural lubricant. Even if it was just very little each time at first, I did it. I never used any creams, but I'm sure that just would have made it easier.

It didn't take long to see some progress, but when I did it excited and encouraged me to continue the practice. Eventually I was able to retract it fully when flacid. I remember one time I freaked out a bit because I was erect and had fully retracted it but couldn't push it back down. A little saliva and some calming down solved that problem quick. It's been nearly a year since I've been able to fully retract the foreskin comfortably while erect, and I couldn't be happier that I didn't go any further with my thoughts of circumcision. It took about a year to get to where it should be, but now it just feels great and natural. Sex is great, and so much better too. I continue to retract it fully whenever urinating or showering, and pretty much always during sex.

Now, if you CAN retract your foreskin while flacid, than you are further along than I was when I first started. Also, my glans is EXTREMELY sensitive, and I'm damn thankful I have my foreskin to protect it. If yours is also very sensitive, keep in mind the length of time it would take your glans to acclimate to NOT having that protection: it's sensitive red surface rubbing against your underwear and anything else it comes into contact with. That sounds a bit painful to me. Dealing with that plus the pain of the circumcision just seems unnecessarily extreme. I recommend what I did, and not getting circumcised. It may take some time and patience, but do as you must.

My Dad was circumcised at 50. His only regret was that he didn't have it done earlier. I think you did well to get the second opinion and to try the stretching creme, but if it turns out not to work sufficiently you shouldn't hesitate to get circumcised. That's what I would do in your place.

I was circumsized as an adult when I was about 23 because I wanted it. (My brother had it done earlier due to a medical reason, I believe he had retraction issues.) I never had any complications from the surgery and never regretted it. It was simply something I wanted as a preference, and I still prefer it in partners.

I made the bad decision of mentioning this to a friend of mine who's rabidly anti-circumcision (like, rabidly... won't even date guys who are cut). he went on a rant about how the doctors just want the money, I haven't stretched it enough/the right away, everyone he knows who got cut ended up regretting it, I won't have any feeling left in my dick, etc, etc...

You're totally right, it was a bad decision to tell this friend of yours. I went through it when I was 14, but I was already sexually active and I can tell you that I don't regret it. I had the same problem as you, I could not retract after becoming erect and it hurt really bad if I tried. I can tell you that after getting it done:
1. I can feel and enjoy sex as well as anyone else and I enjoy topping as much as anyone else does.
2. I don't regret it, I had to get it done because it was affecting my sex life and
3. I have told people like your friend, who have called my decision a mistake and have told me that I allowed doctors to do something unnatural to my penis, to fuck off and realize that nature doesn't always work the best and that some people just need medical help for some things that everyone else can do without said help.

There, if you already have scarred tissue making it even more difficult for your foreskin to retract, then you should pay attention to your doctor. The healing procedure is a little annoying, as you need to avoid having full blown erections for some time, but it is well worth it in the end, believe me ..|

You don't really need the medication, and you can work around the morning wood, try to have a soft j/o session every now and then, taking it slow and being very gentle. That's how I did it and no stitches fell before time. All of them fell weeks later when they were supposed to. I do remember I learned to use a lot of mental power to avoid boners in many situations, especially since walking around fully-clothed with those stitches there is kind of uncomfortable, but all in all, it is not impossible to withstand.

I always wondered, do they give you medication to prevent erections following circumcision? I wake up with raging morning wood pretty much every day and wouldn't that just pop the stitches?

Unfortunately, an adult circumcision does make the penis very sensitive for the first week or so and this does cause spontaneous erections in a lot of guys (kind of like being a teenager again!). The erections do hurt and if you're a guy who gets off a lot, the restrictions in sexual activity during recovery are tough.

An erection won't pop the stitches. Masturbation can, though. Follow your post-operative instructions closely. Usually the surgeon will give you activity restrictions. You want to keep your surgical site clean but moistened with ointment or anti-scar cream. Sometimes you have to experiment with underwear- some guys don't want any movement and they opt for support briefs while other guys don't like any pressure on their penis, so they prefer loose fitting underwear (or no underwear at all).

During the recovery period, it's not a lot of fun but afterward, it won't seem that bad.
