Lap-Band, Gastric bypass, etc.

I want to get one in a couple years. Share your experiences.

Sorry, no experience here... but I'm curious why you would be planning this intervention, which I would consider a last resort, two years in advance? I would think if you qualified for it, then now would be a good time, no?

In a couple of years I am going to come into a lot of money. I will be self paying. As of now I have no money.

Also I just like to plan things. I like getting info.!oops!

Cool! Getting a lot of money is always cool. :-)

Do you really need to go to this extreme? You know, surgery is never as good as it sounds. Sometimes there's no other choice, but not needing it is always better. How far from your goal are you right now, weight wise?

A few years ago I got hurt while at work. I messed up my left knee, left hip, lower back (which pinches the nerve to both legs), and right wrist. I was told to stop going to the gym because it was doing more damage than it was helping. I have been told surgery would be great for me because it will take care of most my health issues or make them better a bit. The reason I was told to stop going to the gym was a 1 ½ hour workout put me in massive pain for two or three days. Pretty much anything I did at the gym would mess with one or more of my injuries.

On top of all that my entire family is fat on my mother’s side. I am just lucky to be 6’2” where they are all about 5’4” to 5’7”. Anyways to answer your question I figure I probably could lose 200 or so. I have already lost 60 on my own, but mostly that’s from not eating.

Sounds drastic - I would get a second opinion from a physician and consider the side effects from such a surgery. Maybe it will be beneficial but that's unclear. The person I knew how had bypass seemed to be sick a lot after the surgery and developed all kinds of food allergies strangely enough. He was really skinny though and it was never clear why he got the surgery..
On second thought get a third opinion too. I would.

I have had six doctors tell me it would be a good idea.

These surgeries come with a lot of risk for complications. If you can lose the weight by getting into an exercise program and making some lifestyle modifications, then do it that way- it's much safer.
