Has anyone tried using Rogaine/Minoxidil to grow more facial hair?

It's doubtful that minoxidil would trigger increased hair growth. The mechanism of minoxidil on hair follicles is not completely understood but it seems to have an effect of triggering hair LOSS which is followed by regrowth of thicker hair. It's dependent upon absorption of the drug through the skin. I haven't seen any studies that indicate that it would work on body facial hair or body hair which is a different type of hair than is found upon the head.

The other thing that might be a problem. Minoxidil is toxic to certain animals. Since pets are inclined to lick their owners on the face, it might be a problem to apply it to your face if you have pets.

Male pattern baldness is a function of testosterone. Get castrated, and a guy's bald noggin cums up like a chia pet. Minoxidil works by inhibiting the conversion of dihydroxytestosterone to testosterone. Beard is a secondary sexual characterisitic, and so I am thinkin Minoxidil is not the answer. In fact, you may have hit on something. If you put this on your face, it might substantially reduce the "beard burden" which could be marketable. A lot of guys would love to get rid of that shit and the 10 minutes wasted every morning to get rid of it...for awhile.

Minoxidil works by inhibiting the conversion of dihydroxytestosterone to testosterone.

Minoxidil doesn't interact with male hormones. The mechanism of action isn't known but, as a vasodilator, it seems to indirectly stimulate the growth of hair. The levels of DHT around the hair follicle remain unchanged.

Males produce testosterone. An enzyme converts a small percentage of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT has a side effect of causing death of hair follicles on the scalp in some men. Finasteride (Propecia) affects this conversion of testosterone to DHT which extends the life of the hair follicle.

There are guys on youtube that document their trial with hair loss products on their faces to help grow facial hair. Most are not successful at all and some just grow weird, uneven looking patches of facial hair that made them look odd. I wouldn't want to experiment with hormonal products.

dont you love how much medicine is just one stab-in-the-dark regime after another.

no rogaine is for the scalp only.

why the hell do you want a beard you beatnik? thank all the gods that you do not have facial hair and do not have to shave. be happy and proud of yourself.

^From what I've read, it seems like it might work. Hell, it's only $30 for a 3-month supply, so I don't have a whole lot to lose. That's a good point about it being toxic to pets; I'll be sure to not let my cat lick my face while I'm using it. Thanks, Kara!
Seriously, if I were you and had a cat, I wouldn't use Minoxidil AT ALL. There was recently a story on the news here about a guy who used Rogaine on his head to stimulate hair growth and it made his cat *very* sick. The cat never licked his head and he didn't even pet it much either - apparently it was just through incidental indirect contact.
