Have you donated money to a church?

Me? Hell no. My parents? Yup, plenty of times. I remember the elders (that's what the Jehovah's Witness call their equivalent of a pastor/priest, or at least I think it is) trying to coax us (kids) to donate our allowances the their church-err, sorry, kingdom hall. Idk if the other kids agreed to do so, but I would think myself "lol, fuck you, I'm buying an ice cream." Okay, maybe not like that, but you get the point.

Donating as in tithing, yes. I spent 20 years in a baptist church. Now I wouldn't give anything, and think churches should be taxed.

I'll never donate money to the red kettle.

Sadly I use to donate a lot that way until I was on my local pride board and we wanted to use their park. A lower down okayed us, but when someone higher heard they turned us away. That was when I did some digging into them. Not only they homophobic, but pretty much phobic of everything including other Christians. They are not a nice group. They have people fooled. Yes they do some good, but they will turn away same sex couple for help or any others they deem unworthy according to my findings.

Yes, I donate every Sunday for most of my life. Not a tithe amount, but something less. My parents always did too.

No. Though I do not personally endorse a christian/theist project, I tend to see donations to churches, more egregiously, as inefficient. Our bucks ought to be put into those places which will maximize the best outcomes for the most people. Churches don't do that.

I went to church afew times but feel out of place Lol
Donate? maybe afew dollars in the collection basket thing because you feel pressured !!!

What's the 'red kettle'?

I was raised by agnostic/atheist parents so I was never exposed to the whole church thing.

Thanks for the reply.

I live very near to a Salvation Army Church, but the 'red kettles' seem to be a USA thing; I don't recall ever seeing them over here.

I have most of my life. The churches here in Alabama are so bad though, that I've stopped attending. Now, I give my money to other charities, like school drives, art museums, music guilds, botanic gardens, and the like.

I've been on an arc that finds institutions in general to be unappealing, including churches.

If churches ever do become taxed, they'll have slick accountants who do their books and figure out how to avoid most of them, just like any other corporation does. The legislatures will never have strong stomachs for beating up churches. The Catholics may take it in the shorts, but they are a bit of a different beast financially and organizationally.

You guys do things the wrong way,
why not use the church facilities without donation ?

Oh, i remember in Paris, i used the church toilet and they looked at me in the wrong way :lol:
