I can hardly wait to see the new Batman movie with Heath Ledger as the Joker!

The trailers I have seen are tremendous....it does NOT even look like him, act like him...NOW that is acting at it's supreme moment!

We canNOT even get a ticket here in La$ Vega$ for they are ALL sold out in advance, at least in the "normal" hours of operation....I guess if you wanted to go at 3 A.M. you "might" get a ticket! lol

PLEASE........has anyone seen the movie yet?

...........and DO NOT give away any of the story lines about the movie........Please?

I think that if the hype about Heath's performance is correct, he might just get an academy award posthumously.........

Ya think?(*8*)

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

I saw it last night and it was what I expected it to be, a lot of hype with more than average appeal. Heath was incredible, didn't realize he had the chops to pull off such a role. Overall, I thought it was too long. When you add in the 15 to 30 minutes of trailers and commercials you're looking at a 3 hr movie. That gravelly Batman voice was annoying by the end of the film.

It is always the sign of a good actor when you have to remind yourself who you're watching. Not many actors can do that. Like Jimmy Stewart or Peter Ustinov.

Then there are the actors who, no matter what they do, you have to remind yourself that you're not watching an actor but a character. Like. . . oh, I don't know. . . Tom Cruise or John Wayne.

I can't wait to see. I think it would be great if got the Oscar. It would really honor his career.

"bump.........surely, MORE of our JUBBERS have seen this wonderful movie?

Your review...............without giving away the beautiful plot to those of us who have NOT seen it yet!!!!!(*8*)

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

Saw it yesterday at a matinee.

The movie was excellent overall, but Heath Ledger's performance was absolutely brilliant.

There are a couple of his scenes that rank among the best iconic on screen moments you'll ever see.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

The Dark Knight...and I saw it last night at the premier at Pleasure Island. Heath Ledger was alright, I still prefer Jack Nicholson though. I won't even comment on Christian Bale. Errbawdy know I hate him

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

Honestly, Christian Bale is the one who should get the kudos.

This is the first Batman series where the villains don't completely take over the screen. I mean, Heath Ledger is amazing and yes.. the movie is fantastic but does anyone even remember if Batman was IN that movie with Danny Devito as the Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman?

Ditto

His best performance yet IMO. Bitter sweet as it was his last. What a dreadful waste of an awesome talent and what a great loss.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

The movie was amazing. I loved every minute of it and I didn't want it to end. Heath Ledger was excellent.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

Honestly I thought the movie was good, not great. It took an hour and 15 minutes for it to really get going. Maggie Gyllenhaal, who I love, was wasted in a nothing role. And as far as Heath Ledger, I know A SHITLOAD of hype is being made because this was his last role, but and I know I'm gonna burn in hell for this one, but it really was just a one note performance. I was waiting for that moment when there was something about his character, something in his performance, that just showed another side to him. I thought that moment was coming when he and Batman squared off in prison, and he talked about how Batman completes him. I was waiting for the other shoe to drop. I personally dont think it ever happened. If you really just get past all the hype and buzz, he really is just playing crazy. He will probably get an Oscar nod, maybe even a win, but I dont think it is deserved. Playing a nutcase, no matter how good you are at is, isn't award worthy material in my opinion. It reminded me of Angelina Jolie's win for girl interrupted. That bitch is nuts in real life, it was not a stretch for her!

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

( 2 "tragic" .......above):

Remember, this is "acting" as crazed, totally mental, etc..............the "Joker" that is.........and if Heath pulled it off to the "Nth" degree, then "that's" what ALL the hype is all about, his ability to ...............go to that place and dig deeper within himself to "play" that far-out, out-landish........believable part-of-his-life!!!!

Ya know, I heard that Jack Nicholson is pissed about Heath's performance and all the hype he is getting saying that "he", Jack was the ultimate, Joker NOT Heath!

Hmmmmmmmmmm? Now perhaps he is a bit jealous over Heath's acting abilities, etc???lol

We will be getting tickets this week, after the week-end, where in Vega$, NO tickets are to be had!

Unbelievable!!!!!

I've NEVER heard of a movie doing this before on opening week-end.......YOU?(*8*)

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

Ledger's performance is the best I've ever seen since Brando's incarnation of Don Corleone in "The Godfather". Yes, it is that good. Unfortunately, if they give him the post-mortem Oscar he so deserves, many naysayers will forever claim that they only gave it to him because he died and the Academy feels sorry for him. It will be a shame, really, because his performance is just so outstanding that he would win it easily if alive, and his death will forever make the merit of his Oscar win suspicious.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

I thought The Dark Knight was a good movie, but not great, and certainly not the best movie of all time (as IMDb.com indicates now).

Heath Ledger was a fantastic Joker; he was the only breath of fresh air in the whole movie.

Maggie Gyllenhall was unnecessary, Harvey Dent became Two-Face in a matter of hours (which I thought was unreasonable and poor character development in the script).

I really think TDK shoved too much down my throat and tried to take care of too much in 3 hours. And yes... the movie was lonngggg...

7 / 10 at best. Heath Ledger = 8.5 / 10

I think people are confusing the two... Heath Ledger's great performance does not mean TDK was the best movie of all time... It's just a spectacular piece of an otherwise average puzzle.

I don't think anyone is confusing the two. The movie was utterly amazing, and so was Ledger's performance.

But as always, the world has 6 billion people in it, and not everyone will like it. That is evident when someone said Nicholson was the better Joker....:rotflmao: yeah right.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

I liked the movie. But as much as I love Ledger, I'm afraid I can't jump on the bandwagon saying that Heath's Joker is some of the best acting ever. Yes he had his moments, although none of which I would call iconic; most were memorable only because his best moments have been repeatedly shown in the movie's trailers. Maybe as far as comic book villains go, his ranks among the best. If he gets an Oscar nod, good for him, but I would be surprised.

Like someone else mentioned, I also grew tired of Bale's grunting by the end of the movie. Speaking of ending, this movie ending just kind of fizzled. Jokers final scene was anticlimactic; not over the top as one would have expected. It will be interesting how the next Batman movie will deal with Ledger's Joker absence.

Harvey was just in the way. Like all the Batman movies since the 1992 Batman Returns movie, there's just not enough breathing room in the same movie for more than one antagonist.

You are crazy. Even the film critics of the New York Times called his performance "breath taking", and "mesmerizing". Do you have any idea how hard it is to get any compliments, let alone such hyperbolic ones from the ultra snobbish critics of The Times? After each scene where Ledger's character appeared, there were people in the audience applauding. In my 20 years of life I've seen many movies, but I've never seen people applauding a film. Robert DeNiro said that Ledger's performance made his jaw drop in amazement. Coming from an actor of DeNiro's caliber, that's quite a compliment.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

I agree with some that while Heath was pretty darn good, Nicholson is still the better Joker. There was just something weird about the effeminate voice that Heath used. I'd equate it to the effeminate actions that Johnny Depp uses for Willy Wonka or Jack Sparrow. But while those characters are funny, there was just something creepy about the voice Heath used for the Joker.

Re: Heath Ledger, as the Joker....The Black Knight

No I just have a personal opinion. And you react as if I said I disliked Ledger's performance, which I did not say. Please refrain from attacking others that don't see all aspects of a movie in the same light as you.

No, he isn't. Not even close. As great as Nicholson's characterization was, it deosen't even come close to Ledger's- and I'm a huge Nicholson fan.

Hmmm...prejudice against "effeminate" things. Where have I seen that before? What you are doing is called in psychoanalyses "projection". Look it up.

Seriously, it is a character that is supposed to be bizarely flamboyant. Giving it a few quirks to the voice helps in this characterization. And by the way, I noted nothing feminine about the Joker's voice, only that it was bizarre.
