Well people, it's time to dance your cares away. Remember, worries for another day. Let the music play, down at Fraggle Rock - because it looks like the Muppets' younger, barmier cousins are set for a trip to the big screen.

Yes, the Weinstein Company is planning a live-action film for the Fraggles and their friends, with the Jim Henson company also producing - and, we're guessing, operating the puppets.

For those of you born after the series ended in 1988, the Fraggles were a group of colourful, wacky creatures about two feet tall, who regularly caused chaos / got into trouble with the other creatures who share their world - namely the Doozers, six-inch high builders of mysterious glass-like structures that Fraggles enjoy snacking on; the Gorgs, Fraggle-eating giants and a talking garbage heap oracle.

In the film, however, it looks like the Fraggles are going to leave their caves to venture into the human world (regular viewers will remember that uncle "Travelling Matt" went there years ago and sent back postcards all about the "silly creatures" he met). The published details about the film say that the Fraggles view humans as aliens, no doubt setting the stage for fresh hilarity.

The first time I knew I was gay was when I was "attracted" to the Doozers... I think it was because they were "manly" because they did construction... !oops!
I'm not a plushophile, though... so don't think that. :-)

I'm afraid you may be right. Then again they did ok with some of the muppet movies.

Whenever I hear about one of these movies being made, I think "Why? Why are they making a movie of (artifact)?"

Then I read all the posts saying "Wow - can't wait." And I have my answer. It doesn't have to be good. Just has to have the right name on it.

We were fans of the tv show when we were little, so yeah we're excited to see a full length movie being made based on something we loved when we were young.

It's worked before. Look at last year (Alvin & the Chipmunks and Transformers etc)

Not at all. Just a comment about the movie industry these days. Instead of searching for a good script, they search back between 15-30 years (or sometimes longer) for a property to "cinematize". For the same reason they make sequels - built-in audience. The results can be brilliant (Lord of the Rings) or hideous (Car 54, Where Are You?), but as far as the studios are concerned, it doesn't truly matter, since they're guaranteed that X number of people WILL go see it. Because it's a movie version of that-thing-they-used-to-like. I'm not even damning them for it - it's obviously working.

I do continually run into people who go see these movies, and come out disappointed...and then go see the next one. I remember one guy (here?) saying, "The last two Saw movies have sucked, so I'm giving them just one last chance."
