That's how I'm greeted by Jim every time I enter Chumleigh's second-hand shop. Jim looks a lot like our HoodedRat except Jim usually has a coloured goatee and wears a beret. Today, his goatee was purple. I don't know what colour his hair really is. He shaves his head and his goatee is always coloured.

I like going to his store. It's nice to be greeted with "Hello, Friend."

Personal service like that in this day & age is very rare! Continue to support this business.

Next time you see him tell him how much that small phrase means to you.

Oh, he knows already. He sells mainly DVDs and CDs. There are two other shops on within that block, and one of them sells cheaper, but the people are not nearly as friendly as at Chumleigh's. I'd rather pay the extra buck to be treated like a human being rather than a walking wallet.

A nice greeting like that would make me want to keep going there. Its certainly not the norm here.

This one gas station i go to the clerk there calls everyone friend.. its a little odd though

It takes so little to be friendly.

And yet so few people make the effort

Sad

I've heard that, at WalMart, there is someone at the door to greet you, but that has never happened to me whenever I've been in.

However, being greeted by a smile and having a shopping cart shoved at me (Spend lots and lots of money! Please!!) doesn't hold a candle to a nice young man with a purple bears, standing behind the counter and greeting me with "Hello, friend."

That's why i shop at local shops whenever I can. The big chains do nothing for me.

Sterile city.

I suppose your downtown is collapsing just as mine is. The smaller stores in the downtown core can't compete with the big malls on the outskirts of the city. We have a mall right downtown. It's been there for decades. I rarely go there because there is nothing there to make me want to go. Mostly they are specialized shops. Most of the stores are empty now, though.

There isn't anywhere downtown now where I can go to buy a pair of sneakers or a pair of jeans or track pants. I have to ride a bus for 15 minutes now just to buy a T-shirt.

Sounds like a great guy and a person that really is there to provide you with good service and products. And, knowing what I do of you from what I have read here, the "friend" may be more recognition of you, than a marketing poly however innocent.

How much nicer the world would be if we could all greet each other with a cheery smile, a kind word or a friendly "g'day mate".

Shops where people great you like that is rare. I have been thinking about it and I can't think of one shop I go to where I get that personal service.

Maybe it is my fault as I tend to go to the large Supermarket tipe shops. Also I stay in a big city and near to all the Large shops and shopping malls.
