Hey, guys. I am having this huge problem with my external hard drive. I don't know what has happened, but I can't use it. My pc has this message every time I am trying to open the hard drive which says that if I want to use it I must first delete everything that's in it. The problem is that I really need some files which are saved only in there. I have tried to make it work in another pc but it happens the same. Please help me, the files I need to get from the hard drive are very personal and I cannot find them anywhere, download them or something (I was about to create some backup copies in my pc but the hard drive won't work...)

I've never encountered an error message with the wording you describe.

What is the exact error message you receive.
What OS are you using.
What kind of external drive is it?

Agreed with looseliam, that message doesn't seem to make sense. It might be malware trying to fool you, or you're misinterpreting a legitimate message. Please attach a screenshot here of the exact message so we can have a look.

Also see this other thread in this forum from earlier this month for external drive problems and some tips.

What operating system are you using? It is probably formatted as a format that your computer doesn't recognize for example Windows operating systems do not recognize drives which are formatted as mac drives.

If it is the case you're using it between both windows and mac os x you'll need something called MacDrive which enables you to read/write files on your drive.

That sounds like the case anyway but if it's not feel free to give me some more info and I'll see if I can help.

Thank you guys for responding! Actually the problem I have is similar, quite the same I guess with the guy in the thread "trinket" posted. I found some helpful info there, so I will try some things out and if I can't make it work, I'll let you know. Thanks a lot!

I have finally had time to try to work some things out. Well, the problem with my external drive is that it misses some partitions. The other problem now is that I have downloaded some programs but they won't work. They just get stuck when they try to find the external drive. I have downloaded Recover my Files and Get Data Back. So do you know any solution about this?

Ive had the same message on my Iomega 1 TB Select external hard drive

Its a small box and it says you must format to continue. Obviously Im not going to do that because it has all my Musclehunks.com website files on there WHICH I was ion the process of burning onto dvd . . just to be safe but then it happened.

Ive moved onto Musclegallery.com so I put that problem on the back burner for now.

Ill post the message if it comes up again.

I was trying to copy the files onto my c drive so I can then burn the files onto dvd but it wont let me copy the files.

Right now, after a cold boot, the ext drive is mot recognised by the computer.

Iomega support sucks. I havent really found anything about the topic

I had the same problem with iomega 1 tb external. I tried everything and just had to format all that data. I didn't have much help from iomega. Sorry I can't help with a solution.
