Hey guys I was downloading porn off limewire and a file is on there that I can't view or remove. I don't want this left on my comp does anyone know how to rmove it? I have windows xp if that helps! HELP!

the file is showing up in the limewire program still or it's on your hard drive? if it's on your hard drive, if you shut down limewire you ought to be able to remove it. is it telling you you can't remove the file because it's in use or something? try shutting down and starting in safe mode and see if you can delete it then.

nope limewire is shut down and it does nothing when I click on it. It will go to the media player but doesn't show anything. I click it and try to delete it or move it and nothing happens

Restart and don't open it or anything. See if you can remove it then.

Download "Unlocker"
Install/run it.
select the file, right click, click Unlocker
select the process that's locking the file, click unlock and delete the file.

I tried both of those ideas and nothing. All It says when I right click is play, add to.. , and send but when I try to send it anywhere it is still there.

bobby543210: I'm really sure if you install Unlocker (don't install the assistant), it gives options when you right click a file and it will let you delete locked files. If that doesn't let you delete the file, then I really don't know.

You can also try a safe-mode command prompt and see if you can del it that way.

You didn't make it clear it if was a file that you finished downloading or if it was an unfinished file.

First of all, close Limewire. If you have been using it, you're going to have to do a reboot, because it will sometimes run in the background, even if you've closed it, and if someone is downloading the file, you won't be able to delete it. So do a fresh reboot, and don't open Limewire at all.

If it's a finished file:

1) Doubleclick on My Computer
2) Doubleclick on C: Drive
3) Doubleclick on Program Files
4) Doubleclick on Limewire

Look for the file and delete it.

If it's an unfinished file:

1) Doubleclick on My Computer
2) Doubleclick on C: Drive
3) Doubleclick on Program Files
4) Doubleclick on Incomplete

Look for the file and delete it.

Close all windows.

Go to your Recycle Bin and empty it.

it is a mpg file and it says that the above file name is invalid????

oh jeez that old trick still is working? that was fun to do that with servers for trojans back in 2001 or so. i thought meanwhile microsoft has fixed that.
(you can create impossible filenames from the api, but not access them with explorer).

try to boot to safe mode (press f8 when windows boots). open up a command prompt (start->run-> cmd, enter ). navigate to the file by "cd .." until you are at c:\ and then "cd foldername" until you are in the directory where the file is. then: "del filename" - if you are able to type that name . . if not try "del *.*" WARNING: this will also delete ALL other files in the same directoy, so you might want to move them first.
if the file is not on your c: drive you can change the drive letter by typing "d: " or "e: " etc.

if the above doesn't work you need to use knoppix or similar to remove the file. if it is that bad, come back here and ask for more instructions ;)
