i have to be able to do school work on the computer. i'm an interior design student so the graphics have to be pretty good, and i have a ton of home work to do all the time so i need it to be fairly quick. any suggestions would be awesome!!

when you say you have the programs on disk, do you mean you have microsoft office on cd that you can install? i ask because none of those computers say they come with office installed at all. so if you don't have the install disk/cd for office then you'll still be out of luck. none of them have very detailed information, but if you are looking for cheapest price for similar specifications, then #1 would seem the best "deal."

but seriously, i'm still not clear on what is wrong with the two PCs you have? did the power supply die on the one you were using? i would think you could get a replacement power supply. if it was the hard drive or something you could just put in another hard drive.

i would reccomend a new pc just go into a local pc shop not like a big shop but a local buissiness and tell them that you want a basic pc the best thing imo would be to get a Motherboard compatible with the latest chips like LGA775 for intel or AM2 for amd that way when you have the extra cash to upgrade you can just get a new CPU

it would probably only cost about $400-$500 for the basic computer and if you have the OS and stuff your good to go that is basically what i have done i got my pc for $500 then have added 2 more gig of ram better graphics card external hard drive HDTV card and new AM2 CPU next up gone from the basic computer to a great computer by buying it in parts and upgrading what i can

Your $449 pc in the USA costs $849 in AUS

its got a whole free upgrade from 80gb to 160gb hdd which is still less

but the monitor is bigger 19 inch but 4:3 not 16:10

at the current exchange rate should be $505 ill give them $550 maybe $600 but the aussie one is $345 more than the US one thats more than a 50% mark up

ill go with the guy not screwing me with a huge mark up thank you

Actually, most interior designers use PC because AutoCAD is not compatible with Mac. Mac is popular with graphic and other types of designers, but not with industries that rely on AutoCAD, and that includes architects, industrial designers, furniture designers (which is what I do), and engineers. When I got my Interior Design degree, we worked exclusively on PCs.

If you are planning to use Photoshop, it helps to have a large hard drive, but you can always get an external one and use that for your scratch discs. You didn't list the programs you want to use. If you switch to Mac, your PC programs generally cannot be installed, unless you have Mac discs as well.

Dunno if you are near Donners Grove , but there is a Fry's Electronics there. I noticed they had some floor models around when I was in their Indy store. They have some really good deals, especially if you don't mind the 5-6 week wait on a rebates.

I was quoting my hubby who was the president of ASID Upstate NY/Canada East. There is an app for reading Autocad. Its free. For those proprietary pgms, they can be used either in Boot Camp or emulation mode on an Intel Mac
