hey,

I have an underactive thyroid and used to weigh like 15-16 stone as a kid, but now weigh about 12-13 as an adult. Ive got a bit of a gut still, ive recently started jogging again (after stopping after breaking an arm..) and using a slendertone during the day. However, my gut looks like its excess skin from weight loss than actual fat, and was wondering if anyone had any tips as to how to get rid of it.

I feel very uncomfortable with my top of cause of it, so have never had much of a sex drive because of it..

cheers for any help or advice!

1. Keep your carbs around 100 grams a day.
2. Work not only your abdominals but whole core structure.
3. Increase your protein and find a personal trainer or an online workout program to tone up.
4. Skin-brush daily.

I've always heard that this is usually just excess fat still in the skin, not always with loose skin.

Start some strength training (do squats regardless, they work every part of your lower body) as well as generic exercises such as your cardio.

When you lose weight without strength training, you will always appear less firm and held together. If you don't have access to a gym, I'd suggest buying some cheap equipment and doing the following (on-top of your running).

No gym;
*Pushups, morning and night
*Situps, crunches etc morning and night using something similar to this (my lower back doesn't like hard flooring)
My last one cost me $45, lasted a fair while too. Make sure they are rated to your weight, and have wider feet than the one below so it has lateral stability.

*Plank
*various body movement exercises like burpees, squats (with random stuff as weight) etc.

I only agree to this if it is aimed at carbs such as sugar/lollies/candy. My biggest food intake is carbs (vegetables).

Numbers 2 + 3, I agree with. Increasing my protein intake (even supplementing it slightly throughout the day) did great things for my progress.

Number 4... I hove no idea what it is

It appears to me to be more skin than fat. Once skin stretches to a certain point it looses its elasticity. Losing 3-4st is a lot. Do you have loose skin elsewhere?

Cut out most bread, and all white breads. If you do eat bread, eat whole grain only. Limit your intake of rice and potatoes, too. No candy, soda, other sugary drinks. Keep the beer to a minimum. Do some weight training. When you build muscle mass, you burn calories even when the body is a rest.

- Nah its just my stomach, everywhere else is fine.

and cheers for the tips guys! much appreciated! :D

Since it is a relatively small area, you might consider liposuction, if you can afford it.

cc2011 is only 22 yrs old, too young to be trying liposuction. cc, try to change your diet and exercise, especially some weight training. You're at a good age to get started. Don't get discouraged and you'll do fine. Moreover, exercise will keep you healthy and young looking.

+1

It looks fairly minor and will go away with more exercise and time, better diet is part of the picture in that. Liposuction would just make it worse, too much of an immediate drastic change, just begging for loose skin.

I lost close to 40kg (85ish lbs, 6ish stone) over a period of 12-15 months. Exercise and time is what prevents loose skin, what is in the OP's picture is still body fat, not merely loose skin. It will go away in 6-12 months with a healthy calorie restricted diet and strength exercises.

Given how the skin hangs, I'm inclined to think that surgery is really the only option for eliminating it. I doubt diet and exercise will have any more impact on its appearance.

It's an unusual fat deposit considering that you don't have much fat in the usual areas around the "love handles".

Exercise and carb reduction should eliminate most of the fat. You may have to wait until you have lost a bit more weight to see if it retracts.

This in combination with your description of having low sex drive brings up the question of whether you are on supplemental thyroid hormone and whether other endocrine testing was done for things like diabetes and cortisol levels?
