Hi guys I know this should probably be in the medical forum but I kinda want as much exposure as possible.
Anyways I am planning to undergo the lasik eye correction and have been hunting around the Australian clinics via the web. I have found charges that vary from $1800 per eye to $3250 per eye, quite a variation for the same service. A friend told me he found a place in Houston, Texas that does the surgery for $250 per eye. As i can, with a little help from my friends, travel the globe on the cheap i was wondering if any of you guys have had any experiences with Lasik and the costs per eye.
Thanx if you can help

I beleive there was a post on Lasik in the past month or so use the search feature above and see if that's any help to you. Good luck with your surgery.

yep

it was moved to the health forum

its in there

wow, it's only $1000 US per eye here in the states.
Although, that isn't soemthing I'd look for the best deal on, however, for $4500 you could fly here have it done at a great place stay in NY for a week fly back home and still have $2000 in your pocket.

doctors around baton rouge charge 600 - 800 per eye......not bad....

i'm thinking of doing it myself....good luck....

I had it done to both eyes in November, 2004 in Dallas, Texas. It cost $1,750 per eye. The price varies based on how bad your eyesight is. Bad eyes can be expensive.

On the other hand, it was the best $3,500 I've ever spent in my life. Highly recommend it.

Good luck!

I think the doctor I'm going to charges $600-1000 per eye. I haven't made my appointment yet, though so I don't know for sure.

Thanx guys, been looking some more on the net, am having the initial consult in a couple of weeks, so will take it from there. I have a relatively low prescription that has been stable for 20 years, so fro all info looking good.
Just have to decide where on earth I will get it done....decisions decisions

I've considered it for a while now and have received estimates from $200-$1500 per eye.

I will say, however, this isn't brake pads. I think this is an instance in which one shouldn't be too concerned with the price as much as the doctor and his/her track record.

Exactly why I have asked Jubbers for help, i think its pretty useless to blindly accept the doctors preaching on his own track record. Also I don't see the need to pay $3500 for the same service I can get for $1000, just to sit in a nicer chair at reception. I still cant work out why there is such a dramatic difference in pricing, alto from my searches it seems the basic lasik procedure is the only service with these huge discrepancies. The no blade technology price seems to be fairly universal, but much more expensive.

I've heard that doctors without a lot of experience with the procedure offer somewhat lower prices as a way of building up their practice. After they do a few thousand surgeries at $750 a pop, it's easier to charge more because people are willing to pay more for an experienced doctor.
