I am sure this will give everyone a good laugh.
My tower at certain times sounds like a vacuum cleaner what the f--- makes it do that?
The hard drive? Why does it do that?
It usually does this on certain web pages mainly porn.
Tonight it was doing it while I was using paint shop pro.
It also occurs when i am viewing movies.
Your help is always greatly appreciated, thank you.:D

i'm guessing that the problem would be your fan.

if you have one of dell's somewhat recent optiplex pentium D towers i would be even more sure that that's your culprit. the fan-airduct-heatsink assembly of the things remind of the air intake for a chevy vortec engine (a pickup truck engine) and it's almost as big.

of course, we can't be sure until we know more about your machine. like, what does it sound like and who made it.

Sounds like your processor fan, on some computers these are controlled by the temp of the processor. When it is working hard the fan speeds up making it make more noise. Only real way to find out is to open the case and investigate while it is running.

Thanks so much guys, I have a compaq windows XP
I will remove the cover and keep an eye on what is going on.
I haven't vacuumed it in awhile so maybe that might help. Thanks again

Well guys it is the larger fan that is making the noise when it speeds up. Which fan is this and where would I most readily get a replacement. The fan seems to go at a reasonable speed normally so maybe it is the drive or the processor. What do you think? Thank you

Just suffered a geek moment. Do you realise that in a fan going at about 1000 rpm with ball bearings the balls in the bearings rotate about 4 and 3/4 million times a week! It makes you wonder how they last so long.

Thanks guys and the photo idea is excellent, much less chance of messing up.

We are both ok. We communicated through PM and we understand each other.
