I have suffered in the past. I have always found the cream works best in a few days. I think the suppositorial type are for internal hems.
There is no doubt if you have a tendancy towards them you have to adopt a diet which includes plenty of fibre. Bran flakes for breakfast plenty of fruit and veg! I am now quite regular and have not had problems again for sometime.
Best of luck hope they quickly go down. They really are a pain!

One can turn into more if you don't change your eating habbits. Those little SOB's hurt like no ones business when they flare (people wouldn't joke about them once they have them). Start introducing more fruits and veg into your diet ( also limit or replace your white flour based products with whole wheat based ones), but don't go all out day one like that. Just start increasing it slowly to avoid any unpleasant situations. Too much fiber too quickly can cause gas, bloating, etc. This can also be just as uncomfortable/painful as the situation your trying to fix.

Warm to hot baths will help more then you think they can. Just make sure your comfortable with the temperature and that its not too hot for you.

The suppositories are for internal hem's so you don't need them, but do pick up the right cream for you. There are multiple versions so choose the 1 that best matches your symptoms.

I could never stomach bran flakes, and I have tried :(.

If you find it ironic not wanting to use a suppository, just imagine the irony of a gay man really not wanting to go to a colo-rectal surgeon to confirm the situation.

I have one of the little beggars that pops out from time to time. It's a right royal pain in the arse!!! :grrr:

Rectinol ointment does the trick for me.

One thing that you might want to consider is that if you have an external hemorrhoid, there's a good possibility you may also have internal hemorrhoids.

Buy the cream version (Prep H or Tucks are both common US brands) for your external one that has flared up. Try to buy the ones with hydrocortisone if you're having an itchy or painful flareup since the hydrocortisone will help with the inflammation.

Hang on to those suppositories- you may need them eventually.

Been down this road more than once. In fact I had to have them cut out 3 times. There is NOTHING funny about it. The warm/hot baths seem to help the best. As long as the pain is tolerable you should be alright. You will know when it's time to see a doctor. Most of the time it will resolve on it's own over 7 to 10 days. Use the creme's and an otc pain reliever. If it gets worse, is too painful or doesn't start getting smaller go see your doctor. Dont' be embarrassed either. This happens to a lot of people. Good luck. Feel free to pm me if you wish.

Steven.

What he said. Me too!

I was told by a nurse that one of the foods which have the highest source of dietary fibre is dried apricots - they're sweet and much more palatable than branflakes (you might as well be eating cardboard lol.). You might also like to munch foods that have nuts, like almonds and also coconut is a good source of fibre, so look for the health food snack bars or muesli ;)

glad to hear your doing a little better. Keep doing the soaks. Try and do it a couple of times a day if possible. What you have is a blood clot in one of the veins around your anus. It takes a while for your body to break up that clot. The hot water helps to get more blood to the area and that will help dissolve the clot.

Once it's gone you should keep up the high fiber routine. Will help prevent the darn things from coming back again.

You have a blood clot in a sack of skin.
Go to a doctor and have it cut.
One little poke to numb it, a tiny cut with a scalpel and it's over.

theres no need to have it cut out unless it is causing you a great deal of pain. I've had 3 of them cut out and believe me. It's not something to take lightly. It hurt like hell. bled every time I had a bm. Had a terrible time just sitting, even with one of those donuts. If you can get it to go down using some creme's and hot baths you will be much better off.

OK.......I HAVE to ask.......what kind of butcher did you have?.......

I had only one but after the cut it bothered only a bit and then only briefly.......
