Hi. South Africa has just legalised gay marriage which makes it one of the few countries to do so. Much to the disgust of the churches. South Africa also has one of the most advanced constitutions in the world, requiring everybody to be treated equally. Robert Mugabe is a senile old man.

Generally South Africa is still very conservative, but the gay scene is starting to improve.

My dad is British, my mom is English South African of Scottish descent. My home language is English, but I am bilingual.

We refer to the white groups as either Afrikaaners or the English (Soutpiele ;) ). Most of us mix, my ex is Afrikaans. Most of us tend to socialise within our preferred languages though.

A general population of about 40 million,

about 4.5 million whites, of which the majority are Afrikaans.

The gay population is quite predominant in some areas of South Africa, while very closeted in others. Generally South Africa is very conservative. I believe Cape Town is renowned for it's more liberal views.
