High School Senior "Comes Out" in Assembly

I was ready to say "why must this person made such a production" but then I watched it. Very moving indeed.

That was very hard for me to watch. I had to pause it many times.

It's hard for me to hear people speak in aphorisms. Sometimes I want to interrupt people and ask them: what are you feeling or thinking in this very moment? I don't think it always coincides with what they are saying.

It's probably because I was an extemporaneous speaker in high school and she seems to come from a theatre background where (to me) when people try to sound authentic and real they end up doing the opposite. It was a little too dramatic to feel real.

The message was good. And even though I don't like the style of delivery, she did that style as well as it can be done. Impressive memorization skills. Again, that's why I liked extemp: no memorization required :)

Poignant, to be sure.

The theme was a bit contrived, and a bit too politically obvious, but that doesn't detract from her story much.

It would have been nice to hear the same words from a gay guy, as I believe the oppression of gays is more prevalent that that of lesbians, but both are given short shrift, so I think the point is well made in any case.

Brave girl.

Do you mean like James:

(I put other links to the youtube clips because they are under 18.)

I guess if more kids can have the courage to come out whilst still in school, then it's clear evidence we all are really making things better. x
