Despite being a horrormeister, Hitch had an insanely delightful sense of humour, as evidenced in the trailer. I remember reading an interview about him (please don't ask me to track it down - this was many, many years before the internet) and the making of 'Lifeboat'.

One of the camera crew went to him and quietly mentioned to him that Miss Tallulah Bankhead was clearly not wearing any underwear. Hitch, in his inimitable style, said, "This does pose a problem. Do we call 'wardrobe' or 'make-up'?"

(By the way, I stopped seeing Hopkins after about 30 seconds.)

What do you mean? Do you think Hopkins does a good impersonation?

Hitchcock made fantastic innovative movies over thirty years. I hope this new bio doesn't just sensationalize that brief, silly Tippi Hedren episode.

What do you mean? Do you think Hopkins does a good impersonation?

No. When I was watching the clip, I saw Hopkins acting for about 30 seconds. After that, I saw Hitchcock himself.

It's like watching Adam Sandler or Tom Cruise. You never stop seeing Sandler or Cruise. They aren't good enough to convince you that they are the characters they're portraying. You never forget you're seeing actors on the screen pretending to be somebody else.

Hopkins makes you forget you're watching an actor. He becomes the character and convinces you that it is the character you are seeing, not the actor. In this case, he 'became' Hitch and convinced me that was who I was seeing.
