I met a guy on grindr and we ended up getting together. I bottomed, he said he had a condom but I never saw it. He ended up fucking me without a condom and he came in me. I told him not to, but he still did. I asked him if he was clean and he said that he was but I know better than to just trust someone's word.
Am I at high risk of getting HIV and how long should I wait to get tested.

It's a good idea to get tested as soon as you can. It is best to get the results before engaging in sex again. You may be at high risk because you did not use a condom or know the persons sexual background.

i got a curable STD from a guy in Grindr that said he was clean too. Get tested asap just to be sure. Not to seem preachy, but let this be a lesson to make sure you see the condom on his cock from now on. It sucks too, cuz I really liked swallowing loads/and getting bred too. good luck man, hope everything turns out ok. :) What would make me worry is the fact that he said he had a condom on and didnt. Then even after you said not to cum inside you, he still did anyway. He sounds very selfish and shady and not very trustworthy.

Im sorry about this. Some people are extremely selfish and disgusting. From what I have read about HIV, you are at high risk. There is an emergency treatment that you can get called PEP. There is a 72 hour window so you should be prompt. Heres the website.

There is an emergency treatment that you can get called PEP.

Thats a possibility.

About testing: The test searches for antigenes in your blood. The shorter the time between possible infection and test, the bigger the chance to be infected and still get a FALSE NEGATIVE result.
So if you want, get tested as soon as possible, but even if the test is negative follow up with a second test after 8-12 weeks. After this time the chance of a false negative result is very small.

I wish you the best.

Thanks for the replies. I checked and there aren't any PEP providers in my area, so I'm going to schedule an appointment to get tested.
Are there any stats on how often people get false negatives?

4 weeks after exposure, the test (ELISA-Search Test) is correct in 60-65%.
6 weeks -> 80% correct.
8 weeks -> 90% correct.
12 weeks -> 95-99% correct.

So to be sure, get tested again after the full 12 weeks.

The ELISA test is the most common, there is another test which doesn´t search for the antigenes but for the infectious virus itself. That test is called RT-PCR, but since it is far more expensiv than the ELISA, it´s not commonly used.

There is also a fast test that is often used for free hiv-tests. For those you just put a drop of blood onto a probe and get a result within 30 minutes. Those tests are less accurate than ELISA.

Are you at high risk of getting HIV?

The unprotected sex act that you unfortunately seemed to have engaged in is a high risk mode of HIV transmission IF the top was in fact positive. Since you do not know the top's status and the word of a stranger from Grindr should be taken with a grain of salt, this is a concern, especially because you were the bottom.

Try to think back to this moment and consider what you could have done differently, so in future situations you can do the right thing. What could you have done to ensure that he used a condom? Could you have talked to him more about his past sex practices and the importance of safe sex? Could you have made sure that he had the condom on before he actually stuck it in you?

These are things to think about when you hookup with someone who you don't know well. It sounds like the guy was a selfish prick, but usually there are steps that you yourself can always do to ensure both of you are protected, so take note.

If you don't want to do PEP and you are worried, try to ask a health care provider about the earlier mentioned RNA test that has a much shorter window period of 1-2 weeks. It is equally accurate and should put your mind to rest much sooner. It does usually cost a little bit of money BUT knowing sooner in your situation might be worth it. If not, a test at about 8 weeks will likely be safely accurate, and then confirmed at 3 months.

Statistically, most likely you are fine. Usually people don't get infected from one slip up. Most of us have been there, and we learn our lesson thankfully.

HIV is a very complicated virus and there are many factors that contribute to it being passed such as the viral load of the carrier, the amount of semen/blood one is exposed to, the extent of the tears and/or other STD's the negative person has before exposure, etc. But the reason why one should always be safe is to ensure that the disease will NEVER be passed.

But it IS very possible to get infected from only one encounter, so please protect yourself in the future and make sure you don't worry yourself sick over this.

Any bareback sex with a partner whose status isn't confirmed is a high risk situation. First, stop having sex until you're properly tested. There is no point in getting tested with in first few weeks because of "window period" where HIV will not be picked up by standard rapid antibody tests. Wait 6 weeks and then go get tested. After your first test you will be advised to retest at 3 months from that point to confirm the first test results.
This experience should be your lesson to be in control of your situation with hookups.
