Hello all. I am in the market for a new car and have 99% decided on a Honda Element. I was just wondering if anyone out there has one, and what are there thoughts on it.
thanks
frodo

ps. it's nice to be back

welcome back.

I don't have any specific thoughts on the Honda Element, but I generally tend to like Hondas and Acuras and I've been impressed with their reliability. I'd say go for it, especially since you're 99% there.

I've owned three Acuras now. Each one has been better than the last. Don't know that you could go wrong with a Honda.

It's basically an overweight CRV. Rock solid, if a bit s-l-o-w. Get the 5spd unless you need an automatic slush-box IMO.

Good choice I'd say!

I think they're pretty cool and practical for its intended uses. I had a friend who bought one and it was perfect, he could fit his and his girlfriends mountain bikes in the back and didn't have to worry about getting anything dirty because it is all plastic and rubber. I wouldn't consider it for any off roading other than driving on a trail though. It's got good gas mileage too.

If other Honda dealers are having the same issue as the one I work for, 2006 Elements should be widely available, and they will LOVE to give you a great deal on one. We have I think 6 2006 Elements left in stock! Just for comparison, we have 0 2006 Pilots and 0 2006 CR-Vs.

Otherwise they are solid, if odd looking, They drive well, seem to be pretty durable. Not the quickest as has already been mentioned. 2007 has a minor styling update, but if the lowest price is your concern, the changes aren't worth it, and there are lot's of 2006s!

If you have any questions about 'em, let me know, I do sell them (and all Hondas for that matter) for a living! :)

Actually, if you tell me what you're looking for, I can log into the Honda dealer network and tell you what dealers in your area have in stock even!

I've not owned a Honda Element but I have owned 10 Honda/Acura vehicles in my life and would/will not own anything else but Honda cars. You just can't go wrong with a Honda.

I've been driving an Element since they came out in 2003. I loved the unusual styling and the versatility of the cabin space. It has been an excellent vehicle and would not hesitate to recomend it highly. It does very well on gas for it's size, and although it is a relatively small engine for its size, it does very respectably... I've never felt under powered in the city or highway, even in hilly terrain loaded with payload in the back. Hauling stuff around is a total joy... I was able to move all of my belongings in it during my recent separation... no need for a big truck (I've even fit a queen size mattress in there)

I bought it because at the time I was doing lots of construction, gardening and reno work on my house and cottage and wanted something I could use for that and still be able to drive to work and look cool and pulled together. It was the only vehicle in the utility class to understand that carpeting is stupid in a truck payload area (go figure...). It's easy to run a quick vac though and one of those dust cloths through and presto... clean car for the week... even after hauling trees and hay all weekend.

The only flaws I can point to.... Purchase the grocery insert for your trunk area (available at the Honda dealer...) otherwise your groceries will slide all over the place as you drive home... Also beware the rear visibility, the blind spots are pretty significant, especially if the back seats are up.... I added little convex mirrors to my side view mirrors, that helps alot.

Best of luck, hope you enjoy the Element as much as I have.

I'm sorry but the Honda Element is about the ugliest on the road these days.....

Hey!! Perhaps if we "customized" the HE to the "Woody" look, then it would look a little better...........right?

Oh heck, why not go out and test drive one and see if it fits your needs......

The Element, so ugly that only a mother would love it!(*8*) (*8*)

Actually I can think of quite a few uglier vehicles out there.... The Cadilac pickup truck comes to mind.... the Dogdge Caliber...OI!.... the convertible version of the PT Cruiser (the bathtub on wheels).... Sorry, but The Element is far from unatractive, atleast it's design suits it's intended purpose and the lines are consistently utilitarian in intent.
