ThedaCare files lawsuit to keep employees from leaving for Ascension

ThedaCare announced that they have filed for a temporary injunction in Outagamie County Circuit Court against Ascension Wisconsin. They are asking the Court to provide time for ThedaCare to replace most of its 11-member interventional radiology and cardiovascular team of nurses and technicians. ThedaCare says they were recruited by and have accepted jobs at Ascension Northeast Wisconsin.

It was also mentioned that ThedaCare reportedly had an opportunity to make counteroffers to retain its former employees but decline.

Talk about bullshit. At will is supposed to go both ways, not just benefit the employer. They had the chance to pay more or lose the employees. They chose to lose the employees.

Those forced to stay should refuse to do anything.

Ah yes...the American health care industry.

I get the temporary injunction for the stroke team.

These are peoples' lives we are talking about here.

I work in healthcare and it's ugly right now with staffing in every department.

Now our Governor has added vaccine/booster mandates for healthcare workers and i am sure more people is going to quit or get fired leaving us extra short.

We're talking about lives, the hospital is worried about profits.

I would have much less issue with it if those forced to stay were getting as much or more than what the new hospital was willing to pay, but I doubt that is the case. The hospital that sued is playing on patient well being, but only a fool would think that is what the hospital cares about.

With all of the people looking for work it should only take days to hire people with the backgrounds to do the job, but I am sure they will drag out hiring new people if they will have to pay a higher rate.

A hospital close to me fired 50% of all nursing staff because they wouldn't get the shots. My local hospital tried the same, but found they would have to hire hundreds in doctors, nurses, techs and support staff so they backed off.

Both hospitals are bitching about it. Neither will raise their rate of pay though. The hospitals are making their own issues. There are easy fixes. They just don't want to change up from how they have been doing things.

The workers aren't being forced to stay, they just had their option 'B' put on hold. They're free to go elsewhere.

@ 50%

Some will say those who are too dumb to get vaccinated shouldn't be in the business anyway.

Some will see the 50% division as a good reason/argument to not bother getting vaccinated.

No they are not. They are being held against their will until ThedaCare hires replacements. Until then they can't start at other places. If ThedaCare drags their feet at hiring these people will be stuck for an unforseen amount of time. And why should ThedaCare speed up the hiring? The new salaries will more than likely be more than they were.

Or maybe being in healthcare tells them things normies don't hear.

The workers are not being 'held against their will', they are being blocked from Accession Wisconsin. The piece you quoted reads that the court injunction is against Accession Wisconsin, not any specific individual(s).

The workers are free to quit and/or walk away from the situation and find employment elsewhere.

Providing, of course, doing so doesn't go against any contracts they may have entered into with their current employer.

The articles makes it clear. They were hired by Accession, but not allowed to work there until ThedaCare hires replacements. They already quit and tried to walk away. That is the point of the articles and the injunction. If they didn't want to leave there would be nothing stop.

If I were dying, I'm not sure I'd want to die in a hospital with any employees forced to stay by court order.

Ima just gonna die at home where at least I know which relatives might be tryna kill me.

What sort of cockamamie legal system allows this to happen??
No employment contract should be enforceable if it forbids someone to take their services elsewhere

Sounds like a good place for me to jump in and remind yall this entire system was designed by slaveowners.

Doesn't seem so long ago that people would say 'a man of his word' as though it meant something.

If nothing else, this click-bait nonsense might turn out to be good advertising for Ascension Wisconsin - spreading the word that they have these openings and they are able to fill them quickly. I wish them well.

My hospital is using traveling nurses and respiratory therapists. When the staff nurses get wind of how much traveling nurses make and they end up leaving and joining the agency. I used to be a Nurses Aide and i get tons of emails phone calls texts from agencies asking me to come work.

My Hospital uses the same lie they research other Hospitals around the state pay to see if they are competitive or not.
