Filmmaker Eli Roth is furious his movie Hostel: Part II has become the most downloaded film of all time. The horror director claims that not only was it downloaded by millions of people, but in countries where piracy is particularly widespread, the film didn't even have a theatrical release. He says, "I'm furious. Here's the thing: It's real money. People say, 'Oh, you can't get mad at people downloading.' Well then, when are you supposed to get mad? If you don't speak out against it now, then when?" And Roth has pinpointed his target movie audience as being the very persons responsible for the majority of downloads. He adds, "The audience that's specifically doing (the downloading) is 17, 18, 19 - it's the college kids, and that's my audience. If the fans are going to get pissed (at me), they're going to get pissed. I don't want those fans."

I was wondering if Eli Roth ever considered the possibility that his movie "Hostel: Part II" didn't perform good at the box office because it sucked big time.

He was happy with what he made on Hostel II. It made a little over triple its cost, plus the amount he'll get through the DVD. I haven't seen either Hostel, but I was suprised to know that the first was made with a budget of $5 million and earned $83 million at the box office (he provided the info on AotS).

Good thing people downloaded it because obviously no one was willing to pay to see it.

this is really illogical...
films are DLed by people because people want to watch them.
and if people weren't able to DL films, they'd pay for them if they wanted to watch them.
but, since they can DL the film, they avoid paying for it and get something they want for free.

so, it's just kind of dumb to say "film makers shouldn't whine about DLing because no one wants to pay for their movies."

no, you see... that's bag logic.
you're not DLing movies because they're bad movies.
you're DLing movies because you CAN.

if you couldn't DL a movie for free, but didn't want to pay for a ticket or DVD, you'd go rent it.

but, if you DLed it, you did go out of your way to see it. you took the time to find the film online and the hours it took to DL it. you went out of your way to NOT pay for it.

You're right, I do download cause I can. But I also download because I don't waste my money on the same shit hollywood/music industries/tv, etc want to feed us. I pay for the things I enjoy, I still go to the movies, I still buy cds, I still watch my TV,etc, etc.

I honestly don't care about Eli Roths little hissy fit, maybe if he wrote an actual good movie people would go out of their way to see it.

Yeah but you would still download it for free because you are all too typical of the youth of today, selfish and me me me. You seem to have a moral disconnect in your brain that allow you to do this and think you can logically explain it away the way you have. Grow up and maybe learn some morals

Hey, guys, be nice to each other. We all have different points of view, and that's okay, but there's no need to cut each other's throats when we don't agree on things.

Love (*8*)

Eli Roth is a talentless douchebag who only got anywhere because he kisses Quentin Tarantino's ass. His movies suck. Yes, even Cabin Fever, which was a plotless, gory, badly acted, boring film that wasn't scary at all. And don't even get me started on Hostel.

And just because someone downloads a film for free, DOES NOT mean that they would be willing to pay to see it if it wasn't available online.

Probably is the reason his genre of movies is nicknamed gorno, being that it's gory without much of a story.

You sound like my great-grandmother.

yeah every one of these people who are getting up in arms about Eli Roth getting mad at people would be the first ones yelling for justice if someone stole from them....

Theft is theft.... no matter how you look at it... you want to download illegally then you are a thief... and most people look down on thieves...

I think Eli should be honored so many people DLed this film because I doubt they'd pay to see it. I was dragged to see it at the cinema and kinda regret it because it sucked. If he doesn't want the college kids as his "audience", stop making mindless gore fest films for college kids!
