Hot Straight Friend on gay dating site?! Maybe not

k, so I had a friend once who i pretty much thought was the hottest person ever. we also had really similar senses of humour, etc etc, so I really liked the guy. Anyway he lives in a different city now so we don't see each other much.

Now, a few years later, I found a profile with his picture on a gay personals site. I was confused b/c i assumed he was straight...

So i created a profile specifically to talk to "him" from. I've been emailing him back and forth for a bit now trying to figure out what's going on... I'm starting to think it's an impersonator, but I don't want to stop digging now in case it's actually my friend...

So advice on what to talk about/do is appreciated.

Reasons I think it's not him:
-all the pictures posted are on facebook (ie someone could steal them)
-the real guy is incredibly hot (ie someone would want to steal them)
-the real guy's got a girlfriend (ie probably straight)
-the profile guy's most recent email told me he was 1 year younger than his profile says (older i can understand as the website not updating... but younger?)
-the profile has ONE pic of a guy who isn't my friend, but looks like him. this pic is in the same facebook set as a bunch of pics of my friend

Reasons I think it's him:
-correct hometown
-friend's facebook profile is friends-only, so the only person who could steal his pictures is a friend (possible, but seems less likely than a randomer)
-the guy's first name isn't posted on the personal, but when i talked to him he told me it and it's right (my friend's real name). I assume you'd just try to steal someone's pics, not their whole identity
-I want it to be him (heh... being honest here)

I figure there is a 0.00001% chance that the guy will read this, and suddenly I'm the mouse not the cat, but that's a risk i'm willing to take.

Could be...I found a profile on gay.com a couple years ago that was of my hubby's ex (MUCHO hot, btw)...the problem is is that he was killed in a car wreck a few years earlier. I reported him and they took down his prof.

errr if he was ur friend.. couldn't u strike up a conversation with this guy about something only he would know

like what highschool he went to...

number of siblings...

i dunno whatever...

it should be easy to pick up on if he is a fake or not

I've been trying that. But like i said before it could be a friend of his (who knows things about his high school, friends, etc)... giving a false positive. or it could actually be my friend just lying about things cuz he's paranoid people will 'out' him (sounds crazy, but I've done it before), giving a false negative.

I have this problem where i overanalyze things....

Just be open and ask the guy---if you are interested in him at all it is the best way to develope any kind of relationship with him.

There has to be something that only the two of you would know. Like ask him the street he grew up on or his phone number. Or have him take a photo with his doing something stupid so you know that it is him. This is a chance in a lifetime to find out if he is gay.

Yep. You'd have to have some experience you remember. Maybe a time when only you 2 hung out together. The picture idea is a good one. Or have him call you to see if the voice is similar. There's a chance that his voice could've changed but it's still worth a shot.

Or ask him where he works at and then that should give you a clue.

I wish i can find my dream guys on a gay website

I run into that problem all the time...people using my facebook pictures left and right disguising themselves as me...

It's a burden to look like this I tell ya.

I think he sounds like he's a fake. Really. It's bizarre and I am surprised by it, but so many online personalities ARE fake! So yeah...the picture of his lookalike friend thing is the REAL kicker
