How did your family learn of your homosexuality?

Or , did your family find out by accident or other means.?

Personally, my family found out by accident.

When I was 15 years old, I was talking to my current boyfriend, at the time, on the phone....and the house phone had more than one line.....my older brother was listening in and told my mom.

My family gave minor grief about my homosexuality......because they were all in shock....but a week after that......we all went on with our lives like nothing ever happened.

Well I forgot to delete my browsing history and it escalated from there... basically... I did officially come out myself though with a speech etc.

I told them. I got tired of hiding and trying to cover things up. I had written my parents & 3 brothers a letter. I put them in the mail but decided I needed to do it more personally. Since I live a very long ways away from them I called my parents first and then my brothers. they said they had suspected things and weren't totally surprised. I think that's the case for a lot of guys. We think we are doing a good job of keeping our lives secret but you cant fool your family. They know and are just waiting for us to confirm it.

those people would be pretty dumb or, I guess, super crazy religious.

I can't imagine my parents didn't have suspicions already, I spent my childhood/adolescence listening to showtunes and watching tv shows like Xena...

but when I was 16, I went to North Carolina to do community service with my church in Appalachia*. while I was there, my older sister (19) went into my bedroom, rifled through all my junk, found the disks where I kept all my porn, and showed my parents.

they never even really addressed it directly beyond a vague and uncomfortable talk about how they only want me to be happy, but don't want to know about it.

Major accident. My parents went out for the evening to dinner and a play. I was 15 and allowed to have a friend over, so my boyfriend came over. They hated the play and left at intermission, arriving home very early to find me and the boyfriend completely naked on the family room floor, having a lot of fun. All four of us almost died of embarrassment. They never made an issue of it and didn't tell his parents but years later my dad made a joke of it and I blushed beet red all over again.

Mine was sort of an accident. I was outed by a boyfriend of three years. He decided that after we broke up, it would be a fantastic idea to call my mom and tell her that he wasn't just a friend from high school.. *sigh*

Let's just say that when I came out it involved my parents finding in my possession a very specific type of magazine that couldn't be explained away by any other means.
