Hi. I have plaque stuck between my teeth. And my teeth are quite yellowish.

But no matter how hard I brush my teeth, I can't seem to get rid of the plaque.

And my gums are bleeding a bit.

When I brush very hard to try to remove the plaque, it cause blood and cuts?? across my gums.

What should I do?

Book an appt with a dental hygiene tech, he/she will give your teeth a proper clean and polish. Try changing your toothbrush to one with softer bristles.

Start using mouthwash which is specifically designed to handle problem plaque, most important of all, get yourself into a daily cleansing routine. Brush your teeth after every meal, also use floss if needed.

You can also have your teeth bleached, but i would recommend this only being done by a dentist. Less chance of you looking like Ross from Friends, by overuse of the gel.

It sounds like your problem could be cleared up just by following a simple daily routine.

My dentists all said I should use toothpicks daily (prefer wooden ones) and I find it improves the condition of my gums to the point they don´t bleed anymore. You need to be firm with your gums, however, the first few days you will bleed, but it gets better.

The plaque problem is usually tackled by a dental hygienist. I find that even my electric toothbrush doesn´t always get rid of the plaque, but that it works better than brushing by hand.

Thanks for your advices.

My appointment with the dentist is January 3th next year.

I bought Listerine mouthwash. But no matter how hard I brush my teeth or rinse my mouth with the mouthwash, I can't seem to get rid of the plaque.

How many times a day do I have to brush my teeth?

Thanks for the advices. Does toothpicks and electric toothbrush really works??

Hi travis. As i said earlier, ideally you should brush your teeth after every meal, if at times this is not possible then a good rinse and gargle with warm salty water will help to dislodge those pesky food particles which get trapped between your teeth.

Not to mention keeping your breath from smelling rancid.

Studies have shown that an electric toothbrush is more effective in removing problem plaque than a conventional toothbrush.
Toothpicks too can be useful although it can be to easy to damage your gums and cause bleeding by being too "vigorous" when using them.

As i said before, get yourself into a simple daily cleansing routine, it soon becomes second nature, and takes very little time for the benefit gained.

Thank you very much for your advices.

So the warm, salty water will help to get rid of food stuck between my teeth?

How many tablespoons of salt should I mix with the water?

Must it be warm water?

How much water? A glass of water?

^Rinsing your mouth out with water does help dislodge a lot of particles from between the teeth.

Warm, salty water just helps cleanse your mouth, even rinsing with mouthwash dislodges particles and keeps your breath fresher.

No, not a glass, take a large mouthful rinse, gargle then repeat. That should be enough.

A rinse using hydrogen peroxide might help too. Mix according to the label. It's usually 1 part water to 1 part peroxide. It will help with bleed gums too.

I think hydrogen peroxide is toxic and poisonous.

Thanks for your advice anyway.

Read the bottle label. It's been used for a 100 years as an oral rinse.

Okay. Thanks for the advise.

But now , I just brush my teeth with toothpaste. Not using any mouthwash at the moment.
