How likely is it that I could’ve caught HIV from giving oral?

I really need some advice. I hooked up with a guy a couple weeks ago & gave him oral & swallowed. Within a week I had body aches, a sore throat & these weird pressure headaches behind my eyes that I’ve never gotten before. Everything I’ve found online is that it could be COVID the flu or HIV. Obviously the last one scares the hell out of me. I’ve been out of the hookup world for years. Been with the same partner for a really long time. But now that I’m back in it I feel very anxious. I feel like I can’t trust anybody. Even though I talked to this guy for awhile & he said he was clean. He totally ghosted me after our encounter. So I tend to think he’s a liar. Not to mention the very next day he was posting under a different account that he was looking for an FWB. And he said he hadn’t been with anyone in months. And was totally clean. All the same stuff he told me. Even though I know he was just with me the night before. It kind of freaked me out. And I feel like I’ve been jumping out of my skin with anxiety over this. I gave oral to a bunch of guys back in my 20’s and always got tested every 3 months. I never caught anything. This is the first time I’ve actually felt this bad after doing it. I would have gone on prep but I was told I didn’t need to if all I was doing was giving oral. I just need some advice on how to cope with this. And when is a good time to get tested for HIV if you all think I really got it form this kind of encounter? I’m honestly super worried about it & have no one around I can talk to about it with.

The answer to your question in the subject line is "Unlikely".

Let's start with the simplest explanation. Go to your local pharmacy. Buy a Flu A/B/Covid rapid test- they may be behind the pharmacy counter or they might be on the shelf with the cold medicines. That will answer your question about whether you might have the flu or COVID.

You might pick up an extra one (your insurance will pay for the tests) to have at home in preparation for flu season.

If I had to take a guess, it would be that you have COVID, as an unusual headache is a common symptom and it's a little early in the season for the flu.

Believe it or not, HIV is not that easy to catch. I the past 40 years, there are cases of oral transmission in the research literature but 99% of the people who contract HIV, contract either from anal sex without a condom or sharing needles. While most people who have sex don't do just one thing- i.e. they gave a blowjob and had anal sex- the research is pretty clear that with a virus like HIV, that is rather fragile, transmission solely via giving a blowjob is rare.

As for the other issues that you brought up... yes, if you plan on being sexually active, and particularly if you plan on getting fucked, you should be on PrEP. And since you haven't been single for a while, I would say that in the time that you have been off-the-market, guys have gotten less honest, so you should be responsible for your own health and ignore what guys tell you (unless you get tested together and you see the results).
